Sydney, New South Wales, Australia b214abc7-c18b-4dca-9999-961b80f4988c Full time $89,891 - $107,336 per year

She's back Be part of something extraordinary at Sydney's most iconic aquatic and leisure facility.
This is your chance to dive in and be part of the next chapter at North Sydney Olympic Pool - a world-class aquatic and fitness destination beneath the Sydney Harbour Bridge. Following her redevelopment, this Australian legend is set to redefine leisure industry excellence, and we're seeking passionate individuals to help shape the culture and deliver outstanding experiences for our community.

North Sydney Council proudly owns and operates North Sydney Olympic Pool as part of its commitment to the vibrant North Sydney local government area on the city's picturesque lower North Shore. With around 400 employees supporting 77,000 residents across 10 square kilometres of harbourside land, Council is committed to creating exceptional places and services that bring people together. You'll join a dedicated team working in a safe, inclusive environment — where both staff and the community can thrive.

The role

We are seeking three (3) highly motivated and experienced Operations Duty Managers to join our NSOP team. This position plays a key leadership role in the daily management of aquatic operations, ensuring the safety, efficiency, and compliance of the facility.

Unlike most aquatic centres, the Operations Duty Manager at NSOP will directly manage the Lifeguard team—providing day-to-day supervision, coaching, and development opportunities. You'll be responsible for performance management, scheduling, mentoring, and creating clear pathways for career progression within your team.

During your shifts, you'll also operate at a higher level, supporting the Coordinator Aquatic Operations in maintaining best practice operational standards, leading incident and emergency responses, and ensuring compliance with all relevant policies, regulations, and WHS requirements.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a facility from its opening — helping to establish operational systems, shape culture, and set the benchmark for safety and customer experience.

The person

You're a capable and confident aquatic operations duty manager with a passion for developing people and delivering safe, efficient, and high-quality services. You lead by example, bring strong operational knowledge, and thrive in a team-oriented, community-focused environment.

Your leadership style is proactive and collaborative—you motivate staff, solve problems calmly, and take pride in ensuring every shift runs smoothly. You're also committed to continuous improvement and understand the importance of safety, compliance, and customer satisfaction in every decision.

Essential Criteria

  • Current qualifications in Senior First Aid, CPR, Pool Lifeguard (recognised in NSW), and Pool Operations.
  • Demonstrated experience in public swimming pool operations, supervision, and plant room management.
  • Current Working with Children Check.
  • Extensive knowledge of WHS requirements within the leisure industry, including GSPO, Practice Note 15, and the Public Swimming Pools and Spa Pool Advisory Document.
  • Proven leadership experience including rostering, coaching, and performance management.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Current Class C Driver's Licence or willingness to obtain.
  • Must be eligible to work in Australia and receive clearance from a pre-employment medical assessment. National Criminal Records Check clearance.

Desirable Criteria

  • Additional qualifications or experience in the leisure industry (e.g. swim teaching, fitness, customer service, or creche).
  • Flexibility to work across a seven (7) days week operation, including early morning and evening shifts
  • Experience and knowledge of Local Government practices, regulations and policies
  • Vaccinated against COVID-19
