About the Opportunity
The Head of Primary Freight is a senior leadership role responsible for driving the strategy, growth, and operational excellence of Metcash's newly established Primary Freight function. This role will build and scale the business into a high-performing, commercially successful operation — creating value for suppliers, customers, and Metcash's broader Supply Chain network.
In this Role
- Develop and execute a bold strategy to aggressively grow the Primary Freight business.
- Build and maintain a profitable customer base, achieving ambitious revenue and margin growth targets.
- Form and manage strategic partnerships with both suppliers and carriers.
- Design scalable, differentiated freight solutions that solve key pain points for suppliers.
- Oversee end-to-end Primary Freight operations, ensuring service excellence, safety, and compliance.
- Drive innovation and scalability through technology, automation, and data analytics.
- Lead and develop a high-performing commercial and operational team.
- Champion a customer-first mindset while aligning with Metcash's broader Supply Chain strategy.
You're Likely a Match If
- 10+ years' experience in freight, logistics, or supply chain business development (ideally in retail or FMCG).
- Strong commercial acumen with a proven record of driving business growth.
- Experience managing P&L, financial forecasting, and operational performance.
- Exceptional negotiation, stakeholder management, and influencing skills.
- A visionary, data-driven mindset balanced with hands-on execution.
- Strong leadership skills, with a passion for building capability and fostering innovation.
- Tertiary qualifications in business, marketing, or finance.
