The Role
As an APS 6 level Cost Estimator, you will be joining a team of cost estimators to develop life cycle cost estimates for a variety of projects. You will assist with building team capability and improving the quality of work undertaken within the work unit. You will provide support in relation to complex work; contribute to strategic planning, program and project management; and design and recommend solutions to issues affecting the achievement of desired outcomes.

The main responsibilities for the role are to:

  • Assist with managing the successful delivery of cost models within scope, time and budget;
  • Effectively manage stakeholders both internal and external;
  • Develop productive relationships with subject matter experts and other government agencies; and
  • Provide support to the Directorate's business functions including, but not limited to, contract management activities, ensuring compliance with legislation and security protocols, information management, and process and procedure development.
About our Team
Force Structure Cost Analysis Directorate lead the generation of initial cost estimates for Defence projects prior to their entry in the Defence Integrated Investment Portfolio. The Directorate's primary role is to provide robust, defensible cost estimates and validation of project cost estimates to inform decisions about the prioritisation of future Defence Capability.

This includes enabling functions such as information and communications technology, security and estate projects, integrated logistics, and support and sustainment activities.The Directorate's vision is for a strategic and innovative workplace, where we create a positive, professional, high-performing and inclusive workforce. Our Ideal Candidate
In this team you will work collaboratively with APS, military and contractor personnel to deliver cost estimation supporting future force design.

We are seeking a candidate who:

  • Has experience in cost estimation or an interest in moving into the field;
  • Has a background, or a significant interest, in STEM or economics and an inquiring mindset;
  • Has experience using, or the ability to learn, cost estimation software including TruePlanning and ACEIT;
  • Can apply, or rapidly acquire, understanding of broader Defence policy and strategic objectives, including the 2023 Defence Strategic Review and current National Defence Strategy and Integrated Investment Program;
  • Has an ability to action tasks within tight deadlines while maintaining attention to detail;
  • Promotes good working relationships;
  • Has a demonstrated ability to work in a multi-disciplinary integrated workforce; and
  • Possesses excellent written and verbal communication skills; communicates with confidence; is collaborative and agile; and can effectively manage key stakeholder relationships.
