About the business:
We provide professional trade services to energy, marine, mining and defence clientele covering all Building, Plumbing, Roofing, Electrical & HVAC service types.
We service Cairns, Innisfail and the Atherton Tablelands, including all surrounding suburbs and communities.
We employ 25 to 30 staff, including Carpenters, Electricians, Refrigeration Mechanics, Plumbers, Roof Plumbers and Administrative professionals.
Our business premises is located in Portsmith, Cairns, QLD.
Position advertised:
We are looking for a permanent full-time Roof Plumbing Tradesperson to join our Cairns based team to fulfil the duties of Service Manager - Roofing.
This position is an office based role, the successful applicant will work alongside the Service Manager - Plumbing and will report to the Operations Manager - IPS.
The applicant should consider themselves an organised and reliable individual with relevant trade based experience, excellent communication skills, adept with computers and competent abilities to organise a team of tradespersons and apprentices.
Qualifications:
You must hold a Certificate III in Roof Plumbing to be a suitable applicant.
You must hold a Construction Induction Card (QLD White Card) to be a suitable applicant.
You must hold a current National Police Check or be willing to obtain one.
Experience:
We are looking for a candidate that has a minimum of 2-years experience leading teams of Roof Plumbing Tradespersons and Apprentices.
Applicants with past experience as a leading hand, work group leader, service manager, or operations manager will be favoured.
Other examples of proven leadership will also be considered during the shortlisting process.
Standard work hours:
- 7:30am to 4:00pm Monday to Thursday.
- 7:30am to 2:00pm Friday.
Overtime (if applicable):
- This position is a salary-based role.
- Overtime is not mandatory.
- Staff in an office based role, like the one advertised here, are offered profit-share incentives for working additional hours over the standard ordinary hours per week.
- Overtime based profit-share incentives are reviewed weekly and paid quarterly.
Benefits:
- 6-monthly performance & wage reviews.
- No on-call.
- Vehicle to take home with Ampol Fuel card.
- Phone allowance of $84 per month.
- Full set of work uniforms (x5) and work boots (x1).
- Superannuation of 12% (paid on top of the advertised salary).
- Pay runs are weekly on a Thursday.
Tasks & responsibilities:

- Liaise with clients using necessary forms of communication including in-person, phone, email, or text as required to fulfil the needs of the client.
- Conduct site visits for quoting and job quality assurance purposes.
- Liaise with suppliers and compile quotes and tenders.
- Manage jobs from procurement to completion.
- Schedule jobs to tradespersons and apprentices.
- Allocate stock items to jobs and compile tax invoices.
- Provide knowledge, guidance, training & support to tradespersons and apprentices.
- Competently complete the entry of data into the company's job management software for each job, quote, activity, or task.
- Always maintain a clean appearance whilst at work, including a well pressed work uniform with a tucked-in shirt, belt & buttoned sleeves.
- Demonstrate safe work habits & proper care of company vehicles, tools & equipment.
