Primary objective

Provide administration of applications made under the Firearms Act 1997 (NT) and Firearms Regulations 1997 (NT), as well

as the Weapons Control Act 2001 (NT) and Weapons Control Regulations 2001 (NT).

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Process applications including vetting for completeness and undertake relevant agency enquiries including criminal

history checks on applicants and associates as required.

2. Submit completed applications for specific licence categories with recommendations to the Officer in Charge, Firearms

Policy and Recording Unit for further consideration.

3. Issue licences, permits and registrations approved under the Firearms Act 1997 (NT).

4. Maintain records and provide high level of assistance to public, NT Police Force, interstate Police Services and other

government agencies.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. Hold, or be eligible and willing to obtain, a Firearms Employee Licence.

2. Well-developed organisational skills including the ability to prioritise and work under pressure to complete tasks within

required timeframes.

  1. High standard of communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively and develop professional relationships

with internal and external stakeholders.

4. Sound knowledge of word processing and computer programs, particularly data management and software applications

such as Microsoft Office, Outlook and Excel.

  1. An understanding of the need to maintain integrity and confidentiality in relation to sensitive and personal information.
  2. Proven ability to work with minimal supervision as a member of a team to achieve set goals and deadlines.

Desirable

1. Knowledge of, or the ability to rapidly acquire knowledge of, the various computer systems utilised by the NT Police

Force.

  1. Knowledge of, or the ability to rapidly acquire knowledge of, the Firearms Act 1997 (NT).

  2. Possess or be able to quickly acquire basic knowledge of firearm types and categories.

It is mandatory for position holders within the Firearms Policy and Recording Unit to hold a Firearms Employee License. To
