Our work encompasses every part of our State; from our cities to our regions, connecting and strengthening community.

The Opportunity
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Vehicle Inspector to join the Department for Infrastructure and Transport's statewide inspection team. This is a unique opportunity to apply your advanced technical expertise in a role that directly contributes to road safety and vehicle compliance across South Australia.
As a Senior Vehicle Inspector, you will be responsible for conducting and overseeing detailed inspections of heavy and light vehicles, buses, and Special Purpose Vehicles. You will audit mandatory maintenance schedules, assess third-party inspection facilities, and ensure compliance with legislative standards, Design Rules, and relevant Codes of Practice.

Your role will also involve providing expert technical advice to internal stakeholders, SAPOL, other government agencies, and industry operators.
You will lead regional assessments, manage inspection outcomes, and engage in conflict resolution with professionalism and clarity. With proven experience in technical reporting, you may also be called upon to act as an expert witness.
About you
You are a highly capable mechanic with a strong background in vehicle repair and maintenance. Working under limited direction, you apply sound discipline knowledge to manage technical and quality assurance requirements, producing clear and effective reports, correspondence and solutions to complex operational challenges.
You bring creativity and specialist expertise to your work, supported by contemporary knowledge of industry trends, risks, and relevant government programs and policies. You demonstrate high-level skills in technical and operational programs, with an understanding of the legislation and regulations that govern quality and risk management.
With excellent communication skills, you engage professionally and tactfully with a wide range of stakeholders. You are confident in negotiating outcomes, resolving complex issues, and presenting information clearly to support the successful delivery of large-scale field programs.
