The Department of Home Affairs is responsible for centrally coordinated strategy and policy leadership in relation to domestic national security arrangements, law enforcement, emergency management, counter-terrorism, social cohesion, the protection of our sovereignty, the integrity of our border and the resilience of our national infrastructure.

The Australian Border Force, an operationally independent body within the Department of Home Affairs, is Australia's frontline border law enforcement agency and Australia's customs service. The Australian Border Force's mission is to protect Australia's border and facilitate the legitimate movement of people and goods across it.

**Overview of the Branch and Section**:
ABF International Operations and Coordination (IOC) Branch supports the ABF’s Mission of protecting Australia’s borders through the disruption of offshore threats. IOC coordinates and supports the activities of the ABF’s offshore network, where traditional relationship building and liaison activities are balanced with the delivery of operational effects.

IOC also coordinates ABF’s operational engagement with bilateral and multilateral partners; including the Border 5 (B5), World Customs Organisation (WCO), and the Oceania Customs Organisation (OCO). Through these fora, the Branch enhances international cooperation and shares ABF knowledge and expertise. Our involvement in these fora ultimately strengthens border practices and global responses to security threats, as do our capacity building efforts, particularly in the Pacific and South East Asia.

Operational Support and Planning (OSP) team provide support to the offshore network through the provision of coordination functions, the analysis of detection data, operational planning, leads generation, management of international referrals, the production of reporting for sharing with international partners and the management of ABF participation in multilateral operations.

Finally, the Airline Liaison (AL) Program, a highly effective, respected and enduring ABF function, is also managed by IOC. AL officers work with airlines, airport security groups and counterpart security agencies at major overseas airports to prevent improperly documented and non-genuine passengers from travelling to Australia, while facilitating the travel of legitimate passengers.

**About the role**:
As a member of the Australian Border Force (ABF), be part of something bigger: contribute to building a secure Australia that is prosperous, open and united. Join a connected team of professionals, where you can be your authentic self; grow your career while making time for all parts of your life.

IOC has a number of vacancies across both its geographic and thematic teams at APS6 level, including the South East Asia, US-Europe-Rest of World, North&South Asia, Pacific, Airline Liaison Program and Ops Support and Planning Teams. A wide variety of skill sets are being sought, with desk officers engaging closely with Posts, across ABF Commands and the Portfolio to perform their role.

Depending on their role, IOC officers undertake a variety of tasks, including producing high quality written briefings in support of senior level international meetings, providing direct desk support to overseas Posts, engaging with domestic and international stakeholders, coordinating activities across Posts and Commands, and assisting in the management of meetings and official visits to Australia. Each Border Force Supervisor (APS6) position reports to an ABF Inspector and opportunities may exist to supervise one or more staff members. Officers within IOC may also have the opportunity to travel internationally for a range of purposes, including attending international engagement events and supplementing staffing at Posts during periods of particularly high tempo.

Border Force Supervisors in IOC are required to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to build and maintain relationships to progress joint engagement and outcomes consistent with ABF Operational Priorities. Officers with specialist skillsets in investigations, cargo reporting and data analysis will contribute directly to offshore disruptions working in cooperation with Posts.

Experience working on international, security, or law enforcement issues; familiarity with cargo reporting and data systems; and/or familiarity with the a
