The Department of Home Affairs is responsible for centrally coordinated strategy and policy leadership in relation to domestic national security arrangements, law enforcement, emergency management, counter-terrorism, social cohesion, the protection of our sovereignty, the integrity of our border and the resilience of our national infrastructure.

The Australian Border Force, an operationally independent body within the Department of Home Affairs, is Australia's frontline border law enforcement agency and Australia's customs service. The Australian Border Force's mission is to protect Australia's border and facilitate the legitimate movement of people and goods across it.

**Overview of the Branch and Section**:
The Trusted Trader & Trade Compliance Branch administers the Australian Trusted Trader program and provides guidance on trade services to create a strong, secure and efficient border. As part of the Customs Group within the Australian Border Force (ABF), the Branch supports the efficient management and flow of legitimate goods across the border while responding quickly to the evolving international trade environment.

**About the role**:
Be part of Australia’s supply chain integrity and revenue integrity Successful applicants will work under the direction of a Senior ABF Officer (APS5) to assist in the following activities:
Tourist Refund Scheme

Providing administrative and operational support to the TRS, and working effectively in a small-team environment. As part of the team, you will assist in identifying and implementing improvements to ensure the TRS operates as efficiently and effectively as possible. You will assist in raising fraud and non-compliance referrals and, including to the ATO for possible serious fraud, and providing intelligence information to ABF stakeholders.

Customs Licensing

Other activities may be delegated as required.

**Specific duties/responsibilities**:
Depending on the role, your key duties may involve:

- Communicating with internal and external stakeholders
- Conducting analytical research and risk assessments
- Examining and assessing declarations, refund claims and submitted documents
- Providing administrative support

Tourist Refund Scheme
- Assessing high-value and complex claims according to legislative, policy and legal frameworks
- Responding to travellers' inquiries about payment status and the process for completing a TRS claim
- Advising ABF officers on the policy and operation of the Tourist Refund Scheme
- Assisting in investigating potential fraudulent and non-compliant claims.

Customs Licensing
- Providing advice and guidance on licensing matters
- Providing timely and accurate advice to industry and assisting with the preparation and presentation of information
- Issuing renewals for the collection of licence fees and recommend follow-up action for licence fees not paid by due date.
