Paid internships are offered on a full time, fixed term basis across** two streams**, an **Economics & Public Policy Stream** and an **Accounting & Finance Stream**,in the following areas: - The Economic Division provides advice on economic, regulatory, social and revenue policy. - The Budget & Finance Division provides advice on resource allocation and fiscal strategy. - The Commercial Division provides advice on the State's capital investments and commercial and transactional activities. - The Infrastructure Division provides advice on infrastructure projects throughout all phases of development and implementation. - The ESC is Victoria's independent regulator that promotes the long-term interests of Victorian consumers with respect to the price, quality, and reliability of essential services. **About the role**: As an intern at DTF or the ESC, you will be matched with a team in one of the above areas for 12 weeks between 1 December 2025 and 20 February 2026 (start and end dates can be negotiated). **Economics & Public Policy** interns will report to a Senior Economist or Senior Policy Analyst. **Accounting & Finance** interns will report to a Principal Analyst or Senior Analyst. See the Position Description for more details. Throughout your internship at DTF or the ESC, you will: - Contribute to the meaningful work that DTF and the ESC do to improve the lives of all Victorians; - Learn how the Victorian Government functions and how key policies and decisions are made; - Work alongside leading experts in economics, public policy and financial management, with on-the-job support and mentoring from experienced public servants; - Develop your professional skills and expand your network through a tailored program of training and mentoring sessions; and - Have fun and learn with a cohort of like-minded interns that want to contribute to Victoria's economic development. **Insights from past interns**: "_The DTF internship program far exceeded my expectations. Collaborating with experienced professionals to generate positive outcomes for Victorians, as opposed to just dollars on a financial statement, is a rewarding venture difficult to replicate elsewhere. _ - A highlight of DTF is the magnificent workplace culture. I was welcomed with open arms and made to feel valued and included every step of the way, using my existing knowledge and building new skills. _ - Furthermore, working with other interns on a group project that evaluated how we could improve our education system served as an amazing opportunity to become an expert in a field, all whilst creating lasting friendships with my peers. _ - I highly recommend the DTF internship program to aspiring economists seeking a rewarding and fulfilling professional experience with tangible, real-world impacts._" **Robert, 2022 Economics Intern** - "The DTF internship program was my first internship experience and it was definitely worthwhile. Being able to contribute to the Budget and other funding processes has been a very rewarding and unique experience. _ - My team and buddies have supported me the whole way and everyone is always open to teach and help you learn, which is something I really love about the people here. The friendships I've made through this program are some which I hope to keep for a long time. _ **Joanna, 2023 Accounting and Finance Intern** **About you**: As a highly motivated student in your penultimate or final year of university, you will possess genuine interest in the role of economics, econometrics, accounting or finance in public policy. Interns are not expected to have any practical work experience. To be eligible for the 2025-26 internship program, you are required to be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, or an Australian permanent resident when you apply. **How to apply**: - your **resume**; - a **cover letter** summarising your relevant skills and experience and your motivation for applying; and, - your most recent **university** **transcript**. Please note, DTF does not have a seasonal shutdown period over Christmas and the New Year. **Applications close midnight Sunday 20 July 2025.
