The Goyder Institute for Water Research is a research alliance between the South Australian Government through the Department for Environment and Water, CSIRO, Flinders University, the University of Adelaide and the University of South Australia.

The Institute facilitates governments, industries and leading researchers to collaboratively identify, develop and adopt innovative solutions for complex water management challenges to ensure a sustainable future. The University of Adelaide is the Manager (legal entity) of the Institute, with its role including employing Institute staff.

The Goyder Institute has received $8 million funding from the Australian Government to deliver a regionally-based Research Hub to harness First Nations and community input and improve scientific knowledge to better manage the internationally significant Coorong, Lower Lakes and Murray Mouth region in South Australia.

**A Research Program Manager is required to manage successful delivery of the Institute’s research program.**

Working under broad direction with a degree of autonomy, the focus for the Research Program Manager will be to ensure the successful delivery of the Institute’s research program. This will require providing leadership and management to drive the integrated development, coordination and implementation of research projects within the required timelines, budgets, funding requirements and inter-project dependencies. This will include ensuring the timely delivery of quality outputs with management of project finances, peer review processes, preparation of progress and financial reports and reporting to Institute’s Management Board and Research Advisory Committee as required. Maintaining numerous constructive and productive relationships between Institute partners and stakeholders will be important for this role.

**Some Key Responsibilities include**:

- Provide leadership to drive the development, coordination, and implementation of research projects to provide high-quality deliverables within the required timelines, budgets, funding requirements, legislative requirements and inter-project dependencies.
- Develop and implement appropriate administrative, finance and contractual tools and systems to support successful project delivery, including identifying and mitigating project and program delivery risks.
- Oversee and implement quality control processes to ensure outputs meet the standards of the Goyder Institute and its partners (including independent peer-reviews, Research Advisory Committee reviews and reviews by funding organisations).
- Develop and maintain effective professional relationships with researchers, government representatives and external stakeholders in order to identify and mitigate project delivery risks and facilitate smooth integrated operations.

**To be successful you will need**:

- Extensive experience and excellent skills in project management, including adherence to sound practices such as project planning, executing plans, peer-review, monitoring and reporting, achieving milestones and financial management.
- A thorough appreciation and understanding of the delivery of research projects including peer review, with the ability to ensure project leaders understand and address feedback appropriately.
- Excellent organisational and time management skills, including the ability to prioritise work and work independently.
- Excellent interpersonal and relationship management skills to work collegially as part of a team and with a wide range of stakeholder groups, with the ability to liaise with stakeholders at all levels and manage and resolve sensitive matters at a senior level.
- Demonstrated experience in providing sound advice, including preparation of detailed reports, briefing papers to executives and senior management.
- Proven track record of highly effective communication skills with the ability to build rapport and influence a diverse group of stakeholders.

**Qualifications**:

- Relevant postgraduate qualifications and extensive project management experience.
- Extensive relevant experience and project management expertise.
- An equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
