Adelaide Region SA, Australia The University of Adelaide Full time

**(Level A) **$75,888 to $102,040 **or (Level B) **$107,276 to $126,894 **per annum plus an employer contribution of 17% superannuation**

The research project seeks to reduce the size, weight, and power of state-of-the-art **optical clocks**, by using cutting-edge **photonic integrated circuits** technology to create a new class of integrated optical clocks on a single optical chip. The project will address challenges at the interface of atomic, molecular, and optical physics and photonic integrated circuits with the potential to create a multitude of opportunities for commercial development in navigation, precision measurements and sensing.

The successful applicant will play a leading role in developing and implementing various forms miniaturisation optical clocks within a vibrant team under Prof Andre Luiten and Dr Andy Boes. The project will be undertaken in the positive, supportive, and exciting environment that exists within the Institute for Photonics and Advanced Sensing (IPAS) at The University of Adelaide.

IPAS has an annual research budget of more than $22M p.a., a membership of more than 250 people, and is headquartered in a $100M bespoke research building on the CBD campus of The University of Adelaide. IPAS has available a superb range of optical diagnostic and manufacturing equipment, precision manufacturing (3D metal and plastics printing), glass and optical fibre manufacture and MBE semiconductor manufacturing. Equally important, IPAS provides grant and business development support, and facility management through a high-performing and professional team. Furthermore, IPAS fosters a collaborative culture by organising networking and team-building events, enhancing the interdisciplinary synergy vital for cutting-edge research endeavours.

The successful applicant will undertake both experimental work and numerical studies. They will participate in and be supported by key institutions such as IPAS and the School of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering.
