**(Level A) $72,829 to $97,927 per annum plus an employer contribution of 17% superannuation applies.**
**Fixed term, full time position available for 1 year with possible extension depending on grant funding.**
The Respiratory X-ray Imaging Lab (ReXIL) is the University of Adelaide member of the Australian Lung Health Initiative (ALHI), who were the recent recipients of a $29 Million Medical Research Future Fund grant.
Our funding allows the ReXIL team to continue the ground-breaking research work we have been doing with Melbourne-based company 4DMedical and the South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute (SAHMRI). The goal is to develop a revolutionary paediatric X-ray Velocimetry (XV) scanner, to provide non-invasive measurement of lung function (not structure) in children. We foresee this work will have a huge impact on the assessment of lung disease
XV is a revolutionary lung imaging technology developed by 4DMedical. XV enables lung motion to be tracked over time, and airflow to be calculated at any point in the airway tree. This allows the location and intensity of lung disease, and its resolution with treatment, to be measured. Functional XV measurements can be acquired with far lower radiation doses than conventional low-dose CT structural imaging methods.
The successful applicant will work with the ReXIL team and 4DMedical to validate the capabilities of XV in large and small animal respiratory models. They will be responsible for a pipeline consisting of designing and executing experiments, through to image analysis. The ability to understand and manipulate 3D volumes of data will be highly beneficial.
The ReXIL and Cystic Fibrosis Airway Research Groups are a small team based in Respiratory Medicine at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital. We are dedicated to developing approaches to improving and quantifying lung health, across a range of laboratory and imaging programs.
The position will be based primarily at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital in North Adelaide, with experiments performed at the SAHMRI PIRL facility at Gilles Plains. Some interstate and international travel may be required.
**To be successful you will need**:
- Completion of a relevant doctoral qualification or equivalent qualifications or research experience in the field of medical imaging or X-ray image processing.
- A strong record of producing peer reviewed research-based publications in areas directly related to image processing or biomedical engineering.
- Demonstrated high level organisational skills, including the ability to plan and coordinate projects, prioritise and manage workload within a busy environment and to meet deadlines, and function largely autonomously with excellent problem-solving capabilities.
- Competent in the use of computer software and experience in MS-Office software tools, Matlab, Python, and statistical packages (R or GraphPad Prism).
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, including media and community engagement
