**The Opportunity**

We have an opportunity for a Compliance Officer to be part of our Biosecurity Division within the Department of Primary Industries and Regions.

The primary purpose of the role is to respond to a broad range of complex complaints and reports, concerning actual or suspected misuse of agricultural and veterinary chemicals, along with contraventions of other Biosecurity legislation. Working within this context, the position is responsible for the complex and expert interpretation of the Agricultural and Veterinary Products (Control of Use), Act, 2002, the Livestock Act, 1997, Food Safety (Primary Produce (Food Safety Schemes) Act 2004) and the Plant Health Act, 2009. Under instruction from the Rural Chemicals Operations Manager (or the Senior Compliance Officer in relation to other Biosecurity Compliance Investigations), the incumbent will be expected to undertake an assessment of potential breaches to determine the action to be taken and lead and conduct compliance checks and investigations in response. Effective internal process controls, reporting and operational consistency are important to ensure effective biosecurity risk management is applied to meet the needs, objectives, requirements and standards of all stakeholders including primary production industries, the Minister, the community and the environment. The Compliance Officer also provides expert professional and technical information, advice and consultancy, relating to pesticides and their use to a broad range of stakeholders including PIRSA, State, Federal and Local Government, industry, landholders and relevant stakeholders.

The role contributes to delivering the agency’s priorities by responding to risks to South Australia’s primary production, trade, food safety, environment and community health arising from the misuse of agricultural and veterinary chemicals.

In addition, the incumbent will be expected to provide specialist compliance advice relating to biosecurity compliance matters to the Manager, Biosecurity Investigations and Operations

- Possession of a current driver’s licence and willingness to drive.

- The incumbent will be required to undertake emergency management training and must be willing to participate in emergency preparedness, response and recovery activities required by government agencies.

**Remuneration**

ASO5 - $85,790 min - $95,413 max per annum, plus superannuation
