**The Opportunity**
We have an opportunity for an Apiary Compliance Officer to be part of our Biosecurity Division within the Department of Primary Industries and Regions.
The Compliance Officer, Apiaries, supports the Program Manager, Apiaries Program, by delivering expert technical advice and support to Biosecurity SA’s Apiary Program. The position has a strong focus on exotic pest and disease surveillance and management as well as biosecurity preparedness within a wider context of disease control and emergency management preparedness at both the State and national levels.
A key role of the Apiary Compliance Officer is in developing and implementing an effective compliance program to ensure Apiarists compliance with legislation in place to control exotic bee pests and diseases. This will primarily focus on education and awareness, a field presence to provide effective deterrence from offending and enforcement activities including investigations and brief preparation in relation to offending against the Livestock Act especially in relation to Apiary pests and diseases. The position provides technical advice and support to the program during field investigations and control programs and supports and contributes to biosecurity and emergency response activities, as required.
The position has a focus on the identification and investigation into breaches of the Livestock Act, 1997. Under instruction from the Program Manager, Apiaries Program, the incumbent will be expected to undertake an assessment of potential breaches to determine the action to be taken and lead and conduct investigations in response. Effective internal process controls and operational consistency are important to ensure effective biosecurity risk management is applied to meet the needs, objectives, requirements and standards of all stakeholders including primary production industries, the Minister, the community and the environment.
The role may also be required to respond to and investigate potential breaches of other Acts including Agricultural and Veterinary Products (Control of Use), Act, 2002, and the Plant Health Act, 2009, where required.
The role contributes delivering the agency’s priorities by responding to risks to South Australia’s primary production from pest and disease threats by ensuring good Biosecurity practices are put in place.

- Full Time time opportunity, 37.5 hours per week
**Requirements**:
- Possession of a current driver’s licence and willingness to drive.

- Out of hours work and inter / intrastate travel may be required.

- The incumbent will be required to undertake emergency management training and must be willing to participate in emergency preparedness, response and recovery activities required by government agencies.
