About us
The Department of Justice and Community Safety is responsible for the statutory supervision of young people in the criminal justice system.
This is a prioritised role for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples, who will be given priority consideration as per the special measures provision of the Equal Opportunity Act 2010.
What does the Aboriginal Youth Justice unit do?
The AYJ unit has worked in partnership with the Aboriginal Justice Caucus to develop Wirkara Kulpa, the first Aboriginal Youth Justice Strategy as a key initiative under the Aboriginal Justice Agreement, Burra Lotjpa Dunguludja. The unit is also responsible for the delivery of the Aboriginal Youth Justice Program which is focused on providing culturally responsive service delivery for Aboriginal young people in the community to assist them to remain connected to family, culture, and community.
What does the Executive Support Officer, do?
As the Executive Support Officer, you will Provide high level, confidential administrative and executive support to the Director, Aboriginal Youth Justice. Your responsibilities will encompass a broad spectrum of tasks, from prioritising and approving various matters for the Director to maintaining confidential reports and records. You will manage and coordinate meetings, support the broader Aboriginal Youth Justice management team, and facilitate travel logistics for the Aboriginal Justice Caucus.
What skills should an Executive Support Officer have?
- Ability to project support, including planning, research, document preparation, and maintain an information network to achieve business outcomes
- Coordinate and provide administrative services to ensure quality internal and external stakeholde
- Ability to provide highly effective administrative support to Senior Executives to ensure the efficient operations of the Branch and its business units
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the Aboriginal community, society and culture and the issues impacting on these.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with the Victorian Aboriginal community.
- Demonstrated ability to use the DJCS Electronic Briefing and Correspondence (EBC) System or similar, TRIM document management system and or ability to rapidly learn new software tool.
