**Who we are**
**The Strategy, Performance and Engagement Division** delivers departmental services such as media and communications, engagement, governance, planning, reporting, risk management, and crisis/emergency management. We provide direct support to the minister’s office and manage Parliamentary and Cabinet business for the department. We advise the executive and business areas on portfolio strategy, including developing and embedding the department’s strategic purpose, objectives, priorities, vision and values.
**The Communication and Media Branch** delivers corporate communication and strategic communication activities in support of the department and our minister, for the benefit of the Australian community. This includes managing the department’s social media strategy and social media presence, media support services across the department and for our minister's office, production services including video, graphic design and branding, web publishing for external-facing departmental websites, the development of campaign and non-campaign materials, and crisis communication.
Do you have a knack for strategic communication and a desire to make a meaningful impact? We are seeking a Public Affairs Officer to join our dynamic team, which focuses on delivering communication results for Agriculture trade and policy clients.
**The Job**
Working with direction, primary duties will include but are not limited to:
- Supporting the implementation of communication plans.
- Writing a broad range of communication materials, drawing information from various sources.
- Liaising with stakeholders, including other enabling services and suppliers such as graphic designers, video production, web design and publication.
- Assisting with the development and publication of corporate content for the department’s intranet.
- Undertake research and analysis of issues relevant to client area work as required.
- Supporting productive and professional relationships with colleagues, and stakeholders on the delivery of departmental priorities.
- Undertaking team administrative tasks, including arranging and support meetings, events and working groups, records and inbox management as required.
**Please note **that the merit pool established through this selection process, which is valid for a period of eighteen months from the date the vacancy was advertised in the Public Service Gazette, may also be used to fill future ongoing vacancies in the branch where the duties are of a similar nature.
**What are we looking for**
**knowledge and experience**
- The successful applicant will have completed a relevant communications/journalism/public affairs degree or diploma OR have experience in a relevant field for communication management.
**Mandatory qualifications**
To be eligible for the Public Affairs Officer (PAO) banding, you much have a cadetship or a relevant public affairs degree or diploma or 2 years relevant work experience.
