**The Role**
This position is a backfill for a 12 month period. The APS5 Governance Officer will provide efficient and effective support to the Directorate of Health Research (DHR) in administration, governance, procurement and business as usual activities. They will be accountable under limited direction to perform and achieve complex governance work, and have a well-developed understanding of, and compliance with, relevant legislative frameworks, government decision-making and Defence mission and policy requirements.
The APS5 Governance Officer will be responsible for managing the Defence Health Research inbox including managing the workflow for health research proposals and publications through the approval process, making independent decisions relating to their area of responsibility and assisting with finance and procurement activities. This role supports the work of the A/Project Manager and EL1 Governance and Business Manager and assists the broader team with activities as needed.
This position requires extensive experience in administration, research governance, and stakeholder engagement. To be successful in this role, you will be able to demonstrate:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- High-level governance skills such as monitoring and reporting, documentation reviews and quality assurance checks.
- Experience with administrative tasks and maintaining databases and records in accordance with information management policies.
- Experience engaging positively with stakeholders, managing requests and queries with professionalism and responding to changes in stakeholder needs and expectations to achieve outcomes.
- Experience interpreting and complying with relevant corporate governance requirements including relevant legislation, established principles, work practices and procedures necessary to achieve work area outcomes.
- Desired experience assisting with finance and procurement activities.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team based environment, including ability to collaborate with a range of academics and professionals, and actively support the work area and team objectives.
