**The Role**
Three exciting opportunities exist to provide strategic partnering and commercial leadership and advice to DSTG strategic research initiatives and industry engagement programs. Y

ou will work with the Science Partnerships Branch of DST Group (DSTG) in collaboration with a range of internal and external stakeholders to develop and implement partnership initiatives and associated engagements in support of Defence’s Innovation, Science and Technology strategy.

Assistant Director Strategic Partnership Development (2 positions).

As an Assistant Director Strategic Partnership Development you will work with the Science Partnerships Branch of DST Group (DSTG) in close embedded collaboration with a range of internal and external research programs to make partnership connections with industry, other research agencies and academia to develop and implement partnership initiatives and associated engagements in support of one or more Science, Technology and Research (STaR) Shots and/or other strategic research programs.

Assistant Director Industry Partnerships (1 position)

As an Assistant Director Industry Partnerships you will be directly responsible for managing DSTGs strategic industry partnerships framework in support of Defence’s Innovation, Science and Technology strategy. In collaboration with Defence stakeholders, you will also be responsible for developing, implementing and curating new industry partnerships to realise the translation of innovative thinking into a Defence capability advantage.

You will work closely with other Assistant Directors in the Strategic Partnership Development directorate, and more broadly across the Science Partnerships Branch and Science Strategic Planning and Engagement Division to ensure that all stakeholder engagement is proactively managed with issues identified and resolved on a timely basis and that significant strategic partnership development activity is accurately captured and managed in reporting systems.
- Well-developed influencing and relationship management skills and the initiative to seek out collaborative opportunities to achieve outcomes with impact.
- Ability to prepare strategic briefing papers as necessary for reporting purposes - Senate Estimates, Ministerial Briefs and for the Chief Defence Scientist.
- Well-developed strategic thinking and planning skills, combined with strong representational, verbal and written communication.
- Experience in negotiating a wide range of high level collaboration and research arrangements across organisational boundaries, domestically and internationally.
- An ability to develop, and execute, a strategy for engagement considering aspects such as, financial budgets, commercial sensitivities, intellectual property, security and export controls.
- A demonstrated ability to develop connections between internal and external stakeholders to facilitate the development of scientific and commercial partnerships.
- A strong understanding of the of collaboration challenges between industry, universities and government agencies and an ability to navigate these challenges to facilitate collaborative outcomes.
- Ability to speak with confidence, listen critically, be adaptable to change, have strong leadership and people skills, and a demonstrated ability to actively communicate, engage with and maintain productive working relationships with senior stakeholders.
- Ability to cultivate a cohesive and collaborative team and operate autonomously, within and across teams

**About our Team**
Strategic Partnership Development sits within the Science Partnerships Branch within Science Strategic Partnerships & Engagement Division (SSP&E). Strategic Partnership Development contributes to building Defence’s capabilities by promoting strategically-driven national partnerships and collaborative activities between DSTG and domestic partners through developing and coordinating frameworks to enable engagement activities and bilateral and multilateral arrangements.

Our Division is responsible for strategically positioning DSTG to deliver maximum impact for Defence. The division co-ordinates and develops DSTG's external engagements and leads the development of science policy, the formulation of strategic research programs, and the investment of resources into DSTG's science and technology capabilities.

You will thrive in a fast paced and dynamic environment and be able to provide input into significant stakeholder activity in short time frames. As a leader you will manage your time and workload and that of your direct reports (where relevant) in addition to cultivating a collaborative culture through working seamlessly and efficiently with the staff in the Strategic Partnerships Development directorate.
