**The Role**
As Assistant Director, Events and Awards you will be responsible for managing the Defence, Science and Technology Group (DSTG) Events and Awards portfolio which includes corporate events for the organisation both internal and external, virtual and physical, as well as delivering a comprehensive awards and recognition program for DSTG, sponsorship management and official visits to DSTG sites.

Key responsibilities:

- Providing supervision and guidance to the Events and Awards team to develop and deliver DSTG’s program of major events, as well as promote the exemplary efforts and outstanding contribution of staff through the DSTG awards and recognition program. Key events include awards ceremonies, seminars, online events and the biennial Australian Defence Science, Technology and Research Summit.
- Managing the DSTG Visits team to deliver a strategic official visits program which is designed to share information with stakeholders such as Defence clients, industry partners, Australian government officials, and representatives from Allied countries.
- Seeking out and managing sponsorship for external events and awards that support our aim to shape innovation, science and technology within Defence and across the nation.
- Assisting to demonstrate the value and success of DSTG using various engagement activities such as attendance at industry trade shows and key industry events.

**About our Team**
DSTG Events and Awards is part of the Defence Science Communication (DSC) team, which sits within the Science Strategic Planning and Engagement Division.

As a multidisciplinary team of trusted communication experts, DSC partners with internal and external stakeholders to produce diverse, dynamic and engaging communication that enables collaboration, shapes attitudes, builds relationships and promotes trust in Defence.

The Science Strategic Planning and Engagement Team is responsible for strategically positioning DSTG to deliver maximum impact for Defence. The division co-ordinates and develops DSTGs external engagements and leads the development of science policy, the formulation of strategic research programs, and the investment of resources into Defences science and technology capabilities.
- Have demonstrated experience and the ability to manage a team by providing clear and consistent communication, setting clear performance standards, fairly delegating responsibility, managing performance honestly and respectfully, and guiding and developing people.
- Be a self-motivated individual who has impeccable stakeholder engagement, organisational, communication and project management skills.
- Have demonstrated experience managing a range of events from 20 - 1000 PAX and be confident working with budgets and negotiating with suppliers.
- Have demonstrated skills problem solving and who can react proactively and excel under pressure and in constant changing environments, whilst delivering and keeping the project plan on time.
