We are offering an exciting role within Defence Science and Technology (S&T) Group in our Workforce Capability & Talent Team to lead STEM Outreach and Engagement.

In this role, you will build a diverse S&T talent pool through STEM outreach and engagement, supporting the Chief Defence Scientist to drive the STEM Workforce Strategic Vision. You are responsible for shaping Defence engagement across the STEM sector as the secretariat of the Defence STEM Council as well as nurturing the STEM talent pool through partnerships and extensive stakeholder engagement. You will shape and drive strategies to develop strategic frameworks and programs to build a strong Defence S&T talent pipeline which is diverse in background and experience.

You are exceptional at building long-term, collaborative relationships with stakeholders at all levels (including other areas of Defence, Publically Funded Research Agencies, Academia and Industry) and can shape Defence’s approach to STEM outreach and engagement. Strong written and verbal communication skills and excellent analytical skills with the ability to develop high quality senior stakeholder material in short time frames is essential.

Working in partnership with others, you will be responsible for developing frameworks, strategies and solutions including:

- Shaping Defence STEM engagement as the Secretariat of the Defence STEM Council. This role will directly support the Chief Defence Scientist in her role as Chair of the Council.
- Establish enterprise-level governance and reporting and oversee working groups and committees.
- Develop effective partnerships with industry and academia to strengthen strategic diverse entry pathways into Defence S&T.
- Establish a STEM Scholarships framework to meet the future needs of Defence.
- Establish and maintain robust relationships with key stakeholders in order to partner across the STEM ecosystem in Australia to shape the national STEM agenda.
- Identify risks, trends and opportunities that may influence the future direction of STEM outreach and inclusion.

**About our Team**
Workforce Capability and Talent (WCT) Branch within Operations Enablement Division is responsible for driving Defence Science & Technology success by aligning strategic, policy and cultural realities to respond to the ever-evolving needs of Defence. Working with our internal & external partners, we build, mobilise and develop the Defence S&T workforce of the future to drive high performance & innovation leading to enhanced Defence capability.

WCT ensures there is a strong, diverse pipeline to meet the future workforce demand for Defence science and technology through planning workforce capability, partnering to build a STEM pipeline and developing sustainable talent management strategies.

We also lead the implementation of the Brilliant People, Collaborative Culture pillar of the More, Together: Defence Science and Technology Strategy 2030 which focusses on developing a highly skilled and collaborative workforce that recognises diversity in partnerships and builds a shared culture.

You will lead a team who delivers on student programs, cross-organisational STEM programs, scholarships and outreach activities. You will be a team player and leader who is able to develop sustainable collaborations and partnerships to drive continuous improvement, identify and implement solutions and provide thought leadership in building a diverse STEM talent pool.
