Avant Law is recruiting for an experienced health lawyer to lead a team of high-performing and collaborative lawyers specialising in professional conduct matters (including Ahpra investigations, Medicare reviews, Coronial Investigations, HCC conciliations).
We are looking for a proven leader who will support the Head of Practice Caroline Tuohey in the delivery of high quality and timely legal services while fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment.
**The key responsibilities include**:

- Lead the team to and personally provide expert legal advice and prepare and manage legal files relating to claims and/or complaint files and other matters.
- Represent members in courts and/or tribunals and/or inquiries.
- Provide a professional, thorough and effective legal service to achieve the best outcome for Avant’s members.
- Provide oral and written legal advice to members and Avant Claims Managers and other internal clients concerning legal claims and/or complaints and also general medico-legal advice.
- Personally conduct claims and/or complaints of greater complexity, higher value and/or more significant consequences than claims and/or complaints handled by Solicitors.

**To be successful in this role you will have**:

- Experience in leadership or strong interest in the development of people leadership skills.
- Defence medical negligence and insurance law experience ideal.
- Demonstrated health law knowledge.
- Proactive in developing relationships and understanding and balancing member, business and team requirements.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Strong time management and multi-tasking skills.
