The Role
This award-winning institution aims to help remember, interpret, and understand the experiences of war, and to commemorate the sacrifices of Australians who have died at war.
As a Visitor Services Officer at Australian War Memorial, your responsibilities will include:
- Actively engaging visitors in a welcoming and friendly manner;
- Providing accurate and helpful information on all Memorial exhibitions, tours, displays, activities, and amenities;
- The delivery of interactive, engaging and informative public programs;
- Assisting with the delivery of ceremonial components of the daily Last Post Ceremony, ANZAC Day, Remembrance Day & other ceremonies as required;
- Sensitively maintaining gallery security whilst positively conveying to visitors an understanding of the dignity and commemorative ethos of the Memorial;
- Identifying and assessing visitors' needs and creating trust with visitors through open and interactive communication.
- Providing cloaking services and promoting Memorial saleable items to visitors;
- Providing emergency and first aid response as required;
- The manual handling and movement of a wide range of objects as required including but not limited to electrical and audio equipment, bollards and barriers.
- Assist with managing school visitors throughout their visit;
- Adhering to the APS Values and Code of Conduct;
- Following communication procedures, guidelines, and policies.
- Provision of visitor emergency response within the museum.
About You
Working within the Visitor Services Team, you will be the first point of contact for the visitors to the Memorial galleries. You will enjoy working as part of a team and have availability to work on weekdays, weekends, and public holidays.
Desirable criteria for this role include:
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Proven customer service experience or experience as aclient service representative
- Availability to attend full-day or half-day shifts, per the roster requirements
- Flexibility to attend last-minute shifts when requested
- Ability to display empathy and actively listen during visitor interactions
- Ability to multi-task, prioritise, and manage time effectively
- A deep understanding of, and commitment to the purpose and charter of the Australian War Memorial
