Your Opportunity
As the Business Development Officer you will be responsible for:
- Expansion of the TAFE Queensland Gold Coast's local, state and nationwide training in specialist industry sector/s.
- Working closely with our Directors of Faculty and delivery teams to identify and develop market opportunities for revenue, contribute to the development of business development plans, research, qualify and convert leads into commercial business.
- Fostering strong client and industry relationships to maintain or increase existing revenue streams.
This position reports to the Manager, Commercial Business
This is a Permanent, Full-Time opportunity.
The position will be based primarily at the Ashmore Campus, however you may be required to perform work at other TAFE Queensland campuses.
Key Responsibilities
- Liaise, collaborate and proactively communicate with faculty/s and internal services to identify and develop market opportunities and project manage suitable opportunities through to completion.
- Develop sophisticated levels of product knowledge and remain current with funding, the industry environment, education reform and identify emerging markets for growth.
- Collaborate on the development of plans for education products to maximise market penetration and achieve targets. Develop campaign schedules to support plans and maximise new business opportunities and conversion.
- Identify, negotiate and secure new business opportunities for educational products in the relevant industry sector on a local, state and national scale to achieve organisational revenue targets.
- Build rapport with clients, develop and maintain strong business relationships to provide effective account management and grow commercial opportunities. Provide high level customer service and respond to client challenges whilst encouraging continued business growth.
- Develop strong relationships in relevant industries and support training delivery teams to maximise industry engagement.
- Support the development of business cases, proposals, tender responses and reporting documents for competitive market opportunities. Liaise with legal and compliance officers to develop contracts and agreements for new business arrangement and negotiate with clients to reach mutually agreeable terms.
- Understand contractual terms and manage ongoing obligations which result in contractual financial performance, risk management and continuance/renewal.
- Maintain an understanding of the commercial aspects of TAFE including financial and business performance and any impact from external factors.
- Actively engage with government, industry, business and the community.
- Ability to build rapport with Apprenticeship Support Networks, Group Training Organisations and other Registered Training Organisations.
- Model and actively promote an ethical and safe work environment that supports a culture of zero harm and best practice regarding health, safety, wellness and sustainability.

- Effective interpersonal skills including liaising, networking and negotiating to develop and maintain positive collaborative relationships with key internal stakeholders and corporate clients in a highly customer centric manner. This includes high level writing skills to develop business documents for competitive market opportunities.
- Demonstrated experience and performance in a competitive business development environment with a strong track record in achieving sales targets including managing a client base leading to increased revenue and positive client relationships.
- Experience in and knowledge of the business environment of the industry sectors and available funding including a proven ability to transform business acumen to commercial revenue.
- Ablity to communicate effectively, including presentation to employers and industry groups.
- Displays flexibility and responsiveness and has the initiative, attitude and ability to thrive within a dynamic, challenging and changing environment.
