The Department of Home Affairs is responsible for centrally coordinated strategy and policy leadership in relation to domestic national security arrangements, law enforcement, emergency management, counter-terrorism, social cohesion, the protection of our sovereignty, the integrity of our border and the resilience of our national infrastructure.

The Australian Border Force, an operationally independent body within the Department of Home Affairs, is Australia's frontline border law enforcement agency and Australia's customs service. The Australian Border Force's mission is to protect Australia's border and facilitate the legitimate movement of people and goods across it.

**National Emergency Management Agency**:
National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) is a single, accountable Commonwealth authority that delivers whole-of-nation approach to reducing disaster risk, planning, preparing for, responding to and recovering from all hazards across the emergency management continuum. This includes natural disasters, cyber-attacks, supply chain issues or exotic animal diseases. NEMA brings together the former National Recovery and Resilience Agency (NRRA) and the former Emergency Management Australia (EMA) Group from the Department of Home Affairs.

**Overview of the Branch and Section**:
The Australian Government National Situation Room (NSR) within National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) is the Australian Government's 24/7 crisis management information and whole-of-government coordination facility. The NSR provides all-hazards situational awareness, impact analysis and decision support for Government. The NSR activates National Plans coordinates the provision of Australian Government non-financial assistance in response to nationally significant Emergency Management and National Security incidents. Information products produced and coordinated through the NSR are distributed throughout the Australian Government, state and territory agencies and key industry partners.

The NSR includes the National Security Hotline (NSH), a vital component of Australia’s efforts to counter threats from terrorism and violent extremism. The NSH receives information from the public relating to national security and foreign interference which is passed to Australia’s law enforcement and intelligence agencies.

**About the role**:
Working as the Second-in-charge, the Information Supervisor position assists the Shift Manager in managing the team on the NSR Watch Floor, develops complex products while undertaking product quality assurance, and is responsible for the on-shift training and upskilling of the team.

The Information Supervisor will also contribute to the effective functioning of the National Security Hotline (NSH) and undertake project work under the direction of the Shift Manager. The position is a designated full-time shift work role and the occupant is required to perform duties on a 24/7 rotational roster, including days, nights, weekends and public holidays. Do you have an eye for detail, excellent communication skills, a history of achieving results and demonstrated experience in leading a team in a high pressure environment? The NSR is looking for a self-driven leader with broad staff management experience who enjoys working in an evolving environment.

Ideally you will have sound knowledge of Australia's crisis management arrangements or the ability to quickly acquire such knowledge, and will be proficient with IT use. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are a must, as is a positive attitude and the ability to lead and motivate the team.

**Specific duties/responsibilities**:

- Provide product pre-approval/quality assurance to all NSR products, NSH Reports and produce complex/urgent event creation and notifications
- Escalate time critical information reports to law enforcement agencies/relevant stakeholders in consultation with Shift Managers
- Assist the Shift Manager in ensuring ongoing development, maintenance and correct implementation of standard operating procedures, guidelines and other tools to ensure consistency and efficiency within the NSR
- Assist the Shift Manager in overseeing facilitation of the Australian Government Crisis and Recovery Committee meetings and participate in Crisis Coordination Teams when required
