Shape the investment attraction, urban development and infrastructure policies that drive economic growth and social outcomes for the Region
Neighbouring the Queensland capital of Brisbane, Ipswich is both the state’s fastest growing area and oldest provincial city. It is a dynamic blend of rich heritage, proud communities, diverse landscapes and a lively energy all contributing to a region full of liveability and opportunity.
Ipswich City Council currently employs more than 1200 people and promotes a workplace culture built on our values of communication, collaboration, integrity, efficiency and leadership. Council teams operate across a range of industries delivering a wide range of services to the community, with one common purpose:
‘To proudly enhance the quality of life for our community'
They achieve this by embedding our values in all that we do. Our high performing teams are making a positive difference in the community, and you can be a part of history in shaping the future of this region, which is a catalyst for major growth.
The role of Economic Policy and Strategy Lead is charged with policy and strategy development to drive desired investment, business activity and growth in the region, balanced with community and social outcomes. The role is both outward, market-facing in driving desired business and investor behaviour as well as inward, organisation-orientated, identifying ways of working to unlock the potential of the city.
**Specific responsibilities will include**:
Shape investment attraction, urban development and infrastructure policies that drive economic growth and social outcomes for the region.
Identify policy improvements, at a local council level, that will drive investment attraction and desirable development in the area.
Provide analysis and advice on planning and project initiatives and significant developments that affect economic and social outcomes in Ipswich.
Work effectively across disciplines and functions, especially economic and community development, planning, compliance and infrastructure, to develop an integrated and whole-of-council approach to encouraging desired behaviour and investment.
Develop economic stimulus policy and programs to deliver on the investment, growth and development outcomes in the Economic Development Strategy.
Provide strategic advice regarding business development activities, priority sector needs and challenges and opportunities in the local business ecosystem
To be considered for this opportunity, you will need to demonstrate a track record of leading Economic Policy and Strategy to deliver investment and economic growth. You will have strong capabilities to manage key industry stakeholder relationships to achieve shared goals. Experience in developing policy and influencing outcomes with a multi-functional stakeholder group is seen as a key for success in this role. You will have worked in or with complex public sector environments and have a strong understanding of process, governance and commercial drivers.
Finally, it goes without saying that you will be skilled in inspiring individuals and teams in the pursuit of results.
