**The Role**
The Innovation & Strategic Research Branch seeks an enthusiastic, flexible and highly organised EL1 assistant director to be responsible under broad direction for coordinating, managing and improving the administrative, organisational, business and program management activities of the strategic research programs managed by the Branch (which include the Next Generation Technologies Fund, the Rapid Prototyping Initiative and the STaR Shots program).
Reporting to the Manager - Portfolio, Planning & Impact, in this role you will help direct the efficient and effective governance and program management of the Branch’s programs, which comply with a high standard of transparency and probity as required by Defence and Commonwealth policies and legislation.
The Assistant Director - ISR Programs will:
- Provide customer-centric leadership to this role.
- Build stakeholder relationships by responding to needs with interest and flexibility in a dynamically changing and sometimes ambiguous environment.
- Address complicated challenges, identify solutions and effectively communicate solutions to stakeholders to reach mutually agreed outcomes.
- Drive complex to very complex program requirements such as, development of program management documentation and workflows, communication strategies, identification of program support requirements and other program administration requirements.
- Provide vision and experience in delivery of aforementioned program requirements as well as, an awareness of program management and business analysis principles.
- Lead a small integrated team who provide services which underpin RPI outcomes.
- Represent DSTG at various fora such as conferences and exhibitions to promote the program composition, outputs and benefits to the public. Success in this role will require attention to detail, an ability to lead and inspire others, and the ability to remain flexible and adaptable to changing priorities.
**About our Team**
The Innovation and Strategic Research Branch provides the leadership, governance and support to the scientists that assist in setting up and managing the collaborations that DSTG has with the broader research enterprise in Australia.
Located in the Science Strategic Partnerships and Engagement Division of DSTG, the Branch works closely with defence scientists located within the research capability and program delivery divisions of DSTG, along with other Groups within Defence and other Defence Innovation teams such as the Defence Innovation Hub and Office for Defence Industry Support.
To be successful in this role you will have experience in program management and administration, and demonstrate qualities such as attention to detail, flexibility and adaptability.
You will be able to lead teams of people by providing clear and consistent communication, setting clear performance and behavioural standards, managing performance, delegating responsibility and guiding and developing people.
Experience with knowledge and information management and procurement policies, processes and systems, especially within Defence, would be an advantage. You will demonstrate an ability to manage competing priorities and stay focussed in a fast paced and high paced environment, along with a commitment to high standards of transparency and probity.
You will be able to build collaborative relationships throughout the Division, DSTG and Defence in order to provide high quality program support. You will have demonstrated experience in the provision of sound risk based decision making and judgement to provide expert policy advice and guidance.
