**The Role**
This is an exciting opportunity to work within a team that is passionate about what they do and are committed to helping Research Technology & Operations (RTO) play its part in creating a more stable, secure and advanced research environment for Australia.

As the Workforce Capability Officer you will provide quality workforce planning support to the seven branches across RTO. This includes providing coordination and assistance with end-to-end recruitment strategies, position management and effective access to corporate-led entry level recruitment programs such as engineering apprenticeships, university cadetships and graduate intakes in a unique STEM workforce environment.

You are accountable for organising and managing workflow, making independent decisions relating to RTO workforce planning, and interpreting advice within the context of RTO capabilities and services.

You will maintain strong links to the Defence shared services, conduct tasks with discretion, and follow legislation, policy and procedures.

The key duties of the position include:

- Providing a high level support to divisional executive teams on strategic workforce planning, staffing options, and general personnel administration support.
- Providing advice on novel recruitment approaches as well as the preparation of approval documentation, position descriptions and effective advertising and assessment strategies.
- Being responsible for developing, coordinating and providing timely and accurate data analysis and reports to senior leadership on the workforce performance metrics for the division, including staff movements, division induction, separations, and contractor workforce census.
- Being responsible for the coordination of corporate-led recruitment programs for the division such as summer vacation students, cadets, industry experience placement, graduates, rotational positions, secondments and fellowships.
- Accountability for accurate completion of work within timeframes and business requirements, share own expertise with others, guide and mentor less experienced employees.
- Building and sustaining relationships with Defence shared services on the provision of these workforce coordination duties.
- Consolidating and analysing data and information, coordinate and assist in the preparation of written submissions, briefs, inquiry outcomes, corporate reports, minutes and other correspondence for Defence and external stakeholders.

A merit pool will be established to fill future similar vacancies for 18 months from the date the vacancy was advertised in the Gazette, and may be used to fill future roles as required.

RTO capabilities accelerate and protect Defence's science and technology advances and promote a collaborative, compliant, safe and healthy workplace. RTO also provides specialised research enabling capabilities to other groups and services with Defence, the Australian Intelligence community, our allies and/or our partners in industry and academia.
