**The Role**
Exciting opportunities exist for enthusiastic, motivated, high performing security professionals to join Defence Science and Technology Group (DSTG). Working in DSTG you will have the opportunity to provide research scientists security advice and capability support.
Within the Security Strategy, Assurance and Reporting Directorate, the APS6 Security Strategy, Assurance and Reporting will have considerable level of stakeholder engagement and will liaise with stakeholders in relation to complex or sensitive issues. They will be required to identify, anticipate and respond to stakeholders’ needs and expectations to achieve work unit and Defence outcomes. They will undertake specialist research and analysis, conduct reviews, assessment, investigations and perform procedural and administrative support work to achieve results contributing to the work of a team consistent to a work place and provide advice and assistance on methods of task completion to team members. They will be accountable to contribute towards ongoing self-improvement and professional development, working independently with the opportunity for reasonable autonomy and accountability for the achievement of outcomes of their work.
Within Security Operations Directorate, there are several vacancies for APS6 Research Security Advisors who will be expected to contribute to the development of consistent security processes for DSTG both within the operations of the Research Security Service Desk and within DSTG’s divisions. They are also accountable for the accurate delivery of security services within identified timeframes, sharing their own expertise with others and guiding and mentoring less experienced employees. They are also required to undertake and deliver complex personnel and protective security services to support Divisional staff and assist in monitoring Divisional security performance to ensure an appropriate level of security and compliance is maintained. They will work to promote a positive security culture within a research or highly technical environment by providing professional support and advice, enhancing Defence research through innovative security.

RSD has a workforce of engineers, technicians, computer scientists and other professional staff who deliver a wide range of highly specialised research services and innovative solutions which underpin the operational capability of DSTG. RSD’s work areas undertake a broad, on demand and dynamic array of functions to keep DSTG at the forefront of research and development.
The Research Operations branch is responsible for operational business process reform and performance management of enabling services in DSTG - specifically, Research Safety; Research Security and Integrity; Research Operations and Infrastructure. RO delivers only those services that are unique to DSTG's specific S&T requirements and cannot be delivered by Defence’s shared service organisations.
- Will require excellent communication, customer service skills, as well as the ability to establish and maintain productive working relationships.
- Have a demonstrated ability to interpret policy, develop and deliver solutions to complex problems and be able to prioritise work, manage time and deadlines and work proactively and autonomously with limited direction.
- Is able to display patience, resilience, the ability to self-manage and can remain calm under pressure.
- Will be able to have the ability to demonstrate an understanding of security risk management, engage with risk and confidently make security risk decisions based on all available information.
