The Department of Home Affairs is responsible for centrally coordinated strategy and policy leadership in relation to domestic national security arrangements, law enforcement, emergency management, counter-terrorism, social cohesion, the protection of our sovereignty, the integrity of our border and the resilience of our national infrastructure.

The Australian Border Force, an operationally independent body within the Department of Home Affairs, is Australia's frontline border law enforcement agency and Australia's customs service. The Australian Border Force's mission is to protect Australia's border and facilitate the legitimate movement of people and goods across it.

**Overview of the Branch and Section**:
The Cyber Risk Services Branch is part of the Technology and Major Capability Group, and is responsible for providing the Department's technical cyber security functions to ensure that cyber threats to the Department and the Australian Border Force (ABF) are identified and managed.

The Cyber Prevention Section contributes to the Home Affairs purpose of a Prosperous, Secure and United Australia by informing measures to defeat cyber adversaries upstream of an incident, improving system security confidence, and assuring the Cyber Security Operations Centre.

The all-source Cyber Threat Intelligence team delivers timely, relevant and accurate intelligence products, tailored to the intended audience, analysing the intent, capability and opportunity of cyber adversaries. Intelligence acts as a service to approved clients by reporting on agreed Intelligence Requirements (IRs). This supports decision making at Strategic, Operational, and Tactical levels.

**About the role**:
The Strategic Intelligence and Trends analyst is responsible for the development of timely, accurate cyber intelligence products, which report on agreed Intelligence Requirements to inform decision making and situational awareness. The role is responsible for delivering high quality outcomes and is required to undertake strategic critical analysis to inform intelligence products. The position reports to the Senior Strategic Intelligence & Trends analyst and is also responsible for the development of malicious cyber activity longitudinal trend analysis to assess the efficacy of security controls and maintain awareness of the threat landscape.

**Specific duties/responsibilities**:
The Strategic Intelligence and Trends analyst is responsible for the collation of all-source threat information to generate Department specific intelligence that supports preventive action, situational awareness, decision making, and operational responses. Specifically the position will:

- Develop monthly Executive Threat Landscape reports to inform senior decision making of current and emerging threats
- Develop other strategic intelligence products as required, analysing key trends and threats relevant to the Department
- Develop tear line reporting or lower classification products to share intelligence with approved Government agencies
- Utilise Structured Analytic Techniques to assist in the development of sound assessment judgements across all relevant intelligence products
- Work closely with Technical Cyber Threat Intelligence to establish and maintain threat actor profiles.

**Role requirements/qualifications**:

- Mandatory_
- Experience in intelligence and research related fields
- Demonstrated familiarity with longitudinal trend analysis
- The ability to work with limited supervision
- Understanding of Threat Intelligence Standards
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Preferred_
- Formal qualifications in an intelligence or cyber security related field
- Tertiary Intelligence, ICT or Cyber Security qualifications
- Critical thinking skills
- Knowledge or Experience in a Cyber Security environment.
