**Who we are**
The People, Strategy and Safety Branch is the centre of capability identification, acquisition, mobilisation and development in the department and supports the department to achieve its complex agenda through a highly capable, diverse and inclusive workforce. We provide valuable support and guidance to business areas through our closely connected sections: Health, Safety and Welfare Strategy and Systems; Health, Safety and Welfare Operations; Establishments and HR Reporting; Culture, Diversity, and Inclusion; Talent, Leadership and Capability; Workforce Strategy, Planning and Design.
The Workforce Insights, Reporting and Establishments Section is comprised of three sub-sections:
- **Workforce Establishments** - This team manages the department's organisational structure and positions in the Human Resource Management Information System (HRMIS), shaping the way the department is structured and operates. The team provides critical services to support the onboarding of new employees to ensure they can access IT systems, network drives and have appropriate delegations to perform duties.
- **Workforce Reporting and Insights** - This team is responsible for ensuring the department is well placed to make good decisions using reliable, robust data supported by meaningful workforce metrics, analytics and insights.
- **Workforce Reporting Project** - This project was set up to address recommendations from the DAFF Capability Review. The Project Team is responsible for enhancing organisational workforce data quality, as well as ensuring the department has connected and accurate data systems that we can use to enhance people metrics.
**The Jobs**
The main duties of the roles include, but are not limited to:
- conducting analyses of workforce data to identify trends and patterns relevant to organisational objectives
- utilising statistical techniques to interpret data and generate recommendations for workforce planning
- assisting in the development and maintenance of reporting mechanisms to communicate findings to stakeholders
- assisting with the resolution of a broad range of issues that impact on the organisational structure (and the positions in the structure) within the department’s HRMIS (Aurion) - these will range from minor (i.e. incorrect reporting line) to complex, departmental-wide problems (i.e. restructure of the entire departmental organisational structure)
- collaborating with HR teams to ensure data accuracy and integrity within Aurion or other HR systems
- contributing to projects related to workforce analytics, including data collection and analysis
- managing requests received in a shared mailbox and prioritising accordingly.
**Please note** that this recruitment process will initially be used to fill **three ongoing vacancies** in the section and that the roles may be able to be performed from any of the locations listed on the job description. The merit pool established through this selection process, which is valid for a period of eighteen months from the date the vacancy was advertised in the Public Service Gazette, may also be used to fill future ongoing and non-ongoing vacancies in the branch where the duties are of a similar nature.
**What we are looking for**
**Knowledge and experience**
To be successful in the Workforce Analyst role you will need:
- experience in analysing workforce data, including proficiency in data manipulation and basic statistical analysis techniques
