Deliver contemporary and efficient payroll services to over 1,000 employees in a Local Council environment
Casual role that will be able to work flexibly and on call as required to meet the demands of the function
Hands on role, working with in a small team of payroll officers
About the role
The Payroll Officer's role is to work with a team focused apporach processing all payroll related transactions on time, accurately and in line with current policies and legislative requirements.
Working in a team of payroll officers, the position will include the set up of new starters, processing higher duties, contract changes, leave adjustments, terminations, banding increments and managing queries via the payroll inbox. The processing will occur on set processing days that align to a fortnightly pay cycle ensuring that the team collectively meets its payroll processing deadlines.
**Key responsibilities will include**:
Ability to work in a small payroll team in the preparation and processing of the fortnightly payroll for over 1,100 employees
Ability to interpret award rules aligned to a complex Enterprise Agreement that covers 140+ different occupations and local work arrangements for different business units across the council
Ability to work flexibly based on payroll workload requirements and for leave coverage and RDO days
Ability to work longer days and the occasional weekend if required to meet payroll deadlines
Ability to process employment changes and annual salary increments
Process Higher Duties requests and manage secondments
Prepare Workers Compensation calculations
What will you bring to the role?
Demonstrated experience using a large digital payroll system for over 1,000 employees
Demonstrated payroll processing experience and sound working knowledge of the all payroll concepts i.e. managing all leave typs, workcover, contract changes and annual
Values the importance of customer service and promptly communicating and resolving payroll issues and requests
Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate and handle enquiries with tact, clarity and diplomacy
High level of attention to detail to ensure accuracy and efficient work practices, with the commitment to quality outcomes
Strong organisational skills to understand deliverables for the function
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment, including the ability to effectively gain the cooperation of stakeholders
Intermediate to advanced Excel skills
