**The Role**
We are seeking highly motivated science and technology leaders with a passion for delivering innovative and valued outcomes to Defence, and in accordance with the intent of the Defence Strategic Review, there are a number of new, exciting and challenging roles available.

The Group Leader report to the Major Science and Technology Capability (MSTC) Research Leader and under broad guidance, are responsible for the provision of effective leadership of a group of scientists, engineers and technologists.

You will:

- Be accountable for leading a team, planning and managing allocated resources, setting work area priorities, managing workflows, developing strategies and evaluating business outcomes.
- Lead and commit to the enhancement of capabilities, information, knowledge and the transition of staff skills to meet project needs.
- Draw upon expertise in a specialised field of science and a broad understanding of the domain knowledge to lead and undertake research activities.
- Facilitate appropriate direction for the team by clearly communicating goals and objectives.
- Negotiate and influence stakeholders’ priorities and expectations to develop solutions to meet their needs.
- Resolve and anticipate science and technology issues from a Defence and scientific perspective to meet business objectives.
- Interpret and translate information between customers, Australian Defence Force personnel, senior management and scientific teams to align strategic goals and project outcomes.

**The S&T7 Group Leader roles are available within the following Capability areas**:
**Electro-Optics Sensing and Electromagnetic Warfare (EOSEW)**
The EOSEW Major Science and Technology Capability conceives and develops Science and Technology capabilities in Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR), Optronics, Electronic Warfare, Directed Energy and Quantum Technology systems to enhance the survivability and mission assurance of the ADF.

**Advanced Propulsion and Weapon Effects (APWE)**
The APWE Major Science and Technology Capability has unique sovereign capabilities and expertise in Weapons and Explosives Ordnance (WEO) science and technology. This capability is strategically important for Defence supporting all stages of the munition life cycle by sustaining current weapons and transitioning next generation technology to the Australian Defence Force (ADF) capability.

The US Major Science and Technology Capability is the Australian Defence Force’s primary source of independent scientific and technical knowledge and expertise in the undersea environment, sonar sensing, processing, modelling & analysis and undersea weapon systems.

**About our Team**
Sensors and Effectors leads the impetus for innovation within Australian force operations by providing science and technology advice about equipment, personnel and processes.

Sensors and Effectors Division (SED), as part of DST Group, applies science and technology to the capability analysis, development and operation of Weapon and Combat Systems relevant to the ADF. Areas of focus include weapon guidance technologies, assessment of both weapons and combat systems, tactical information exchange, physical force protection and national security to provide Defence with the ability to meet key drivers in the weapon and combat systems domain.
- An international reputation for excellence in a specific, relevant field of S&T and have extensive experience, awareness and knowledge across a broad range of science applied to Defence.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, including to convey complex information and concepts to a broad spectrum of audiences including military and civilian Defence personnel, other government departments and agencies, industry, academia and other stakeholders.
- A sound understanding of Defence client priorities and associated requirements and achieve outcomes which meet customer needs.
