**Who we are**
The Portfolio Strategy Division is an enabling service working across the department to support the delivery of key portfolio and ministerial objectives. These enabling services include facilitating engagement between the department and Ministers, supporting the department's input into Cabinet processes, leading on coordination requests across the department, supporting the department's organisational governance and committees, leading on budget and other strategic policies, and building the department's data capabilities.

The International Strategy and Engagement Branch is responsible for supporting the Minister’s participation in international environment matters, including in multilateral and bilateral fora, coordinating and developing a whole-of-department strategy for international environment issues, managing Australia’s engagement with international bodies and forums such as the IUCN and G20 and for providing policy advice and support on international environment matters. It is also responsible for delivering the department’s National Security Program, coordinating and facilitating national security engagement to inform departmental programs and policy, and shape and influence the national security agenda on issues relevant to the department’s portfolio.

The National Security Section delivers an enabling capability to shape, influence and inform the national security agenda across the department’s climate, energy, environment and water portfolios. The Section sets the department’s strategic national security and intelligence priorities and drives engagement with the intelligence community to meet priority intelligence and information requirements, develops advice and analysis to inform Executive and Ministerial engagement on national security issues, and uplifts national security literacy and resilience across the department through outreach and education programs.

**The Job**

**National Security Analysts** are responsible for translating intelligence and national security policy considerations into strategic advice to the department to support, inform and shape policy and program delivery across the department’s climate, energy, environment and water portfolios.

National Security Analysts lead and contribute to:

- engagement across the department’s program areas to map national security intersections and prioritise intelligence engagement and strategic analysis requirements
- engagement across the national security community to harness strategic intelligence reporting and information, and to partner on national security initiatives and capabilities
- the development of strategic analysis advice and product on issues relevant to the department
- translating strategic insights and intelligence into outreach and engagement initiatives and national security advice to Ministers and the Executive.

**National Security Coordination Officers** are responsible for coordinating and developing strategic advice to inform departmental Executive and Ministerial engagement on national security issues, and for facilitation of access to classified information to inform portfolio policy design and delivery.

National Security Coordination Officers lead and contribute to:

- coordination of departmental engagement on national security cabinet submissions and processes
- coordination and development of advice to inform Executive and Ministerial national security engagement, specifically in support of engagement on the Deputies and Secretaries Committee on National Security (DSCNS and SCNS) and National Security Committee (NSC)
- coordination of access to classified information and systems across the department, and in engagement with external partners, including coordination of Executive access to targeted intelligence product and Communication Intelligence Security Officer (COMSO) functions across the department.
