Network Coordinator

Melbourne, Australia Lord Mayor Charitable Foundation Full time

About the role

This is a role for a people person with sound organisational and time management skills. You will:

- help find, promote, connect, and sometimes actively support activities of networks, communities, organisations, communities of practice, and groups, wanting to share experiences, insights, challenges, case studies, research, and questions;
- if required/requested, lead the design and conduct of some connecting and learning activities;
- support organisations and networks seeking to help individual communities or community members connect with one another;
- help communities connect with one another where they request it; and
- manage a dedicated website, with technical maintenance enabled through liaison with technical experts (i.e. web design and technical skills are _not_ a prerequisite).

The Foundation will provide in-kind, ‘back office’ support such as HR and desk space, and will be supporting development of the website.

The Community Connector for Resilience (CC4R) project

There are a multitude of government, non-government organisation, research organisation, philanthropic and consultancies working to enable community-led efforts to plan for and build ‘resilience’. They can be focused on disaster resilience, climate resilience, or even shifts in global economic and social contexts. They can be proactive or focused on disaster recovery.

Yet despite these diverse and dispersed efforts, there is nowhere to which communities can turn to connect, share, and learn from each other, or find out about different ‘resilience’ programs or approaches. Neither is there a place for the diverse array of organisations working with these communities to connect and learn together. The CC4R project seeks to provide this ‘place’. It seeks to connect communities, organisations, and networks to learn, understand, and share knowledge, experiences, challenges, and ideas, both independently and collaboratively.

Connecting and sharing across community resilience, disaster resilience, and climate change adaptation practices could help support community-led efforts, while also strengthening the capabilities of organisations working to connect, support, and inspire communities. All hopefully advancing long-term community resilience.

CC4R is _not_ about developing new resilience programs. Rather it’s about connecting what’s already out there - the diversity of organisations and communities working on disaster and climate resilience, so anyone within the network can learn, guide, and share. In the longer term, the network will work to collectively identify key issues or areas for community-led, collaborative, multi-sector work, so it will need to develop ‘network learning’ frameworks and methods.
