Treasury is seeking a highly qualified and inspiring leader with a deep understanding of, and specialist expertise in, domestic and foreign economic developments; as well as a strategic understanding of the Treasury’s role and relevant environmental factors affecting the Treasury. Significant technical expertise is required as this role is the principal and authoritative source of advice in relation to the state of the economy and its prospects.
In this role, you will lead a team of professionals to provide high-quality, timely, accurate and evidence-based advice on economic conditions in Australia to the Government. Your specialist expertise will enable you to lead the delivery of the Government’s economic forecasts; the development and maintenance of analytical tools used by the Division; and advice that promotes macroeconomic policy objectives.
To be a strong contender for this role, you will be recognised and respected in the field of macroeconomics and high quality macroeconomic forecasting and have the ability to clearly communicate complex information to technical and non-technical audiences.
**Desirable Qualifications / Experience**:
As the First Assistant Secretary, Macroeconomic Conditions Division you will have:
- significant experience in analysing economic conditions, producing economic forecasts and conducting macroeconomic analysis;
- as part of the leadership group you will have strong leadership and management skills and the ability to drive departmental initiatives; and the
- ability to represent the Treasury and the Australian Government at a range of forums both within Australia and internationally.
Appropriate tertiary qualifications in economics are highly desirable.
