The Department of the Senate is seeking applications from those interested in joining the Committee Office in the role of Committee Secretary.
The Committee Office provides secretariat support and advice to the Senate's legislative and general purpose standing committees, and select committees, and joint committees for which the Senate has secretariat responsibility. Committee Office staff also play a key role in facilitating the public's awareness of, and involvement in, the work of committees.
The Committee Secretary leads a secretariat team that supports committees in the conduct of inquiries into policy issues, legislation and the scrutiny of departments and agencies. They apply high-level intellectual, managerial and communication skills to lead secretariat teams, undertake complex research, analyse evidence and draft committee reports.
The Committee Secretary also advises the committee chair and committee members on committee practice and procedure and interacts effectively with senators, senior level private and public sector representatives, citizens and the media.
