**The Role**
The Department of Employment and Workplace Relations has an immediate vacancy for a Chief Financial Officer / First Assistant Secretary to lead our Finance and Budget Division within the Corporate and Enabling Services Group.

Reporting to the Deputy Secretary / Chief Operating Officer, the Chief Financial Officer requires in-depth knowledge and experience in contemporary financial management practices and will possess a strong understanding of current accounting standards, Commonwealth budget processes, audit requirements, and financial reporting rules. The position requires a collaborative senior leader who can drive and deliver innovative solutions with a strong focus on supporting the priorities of our new department.

**Duties and Responsibilities**
As Chief Financial Officer you will be an integral part of the Group’s leadership team. You will be responsible for:

- All financial and accounting functions for the department, including forecasting, budget consolidation and reporting to the Executive.
- Strategic oversight of the department’s annual budget process, including provision of advice and assistance on the financial implications of new policy proposals to Ministers and the Executive.
- Continuous evaluation of short and long-term strategic financial objectives.
- Establishing and maintaining strong relationships with Senior Executives to identify their needs and seek a full range of business solutions.
- Driving initiatives to strategically enhance financial performance and business opportunities.
- Internal controls to ensure robust governance, compliance, audit, and risk for all aspects of the department’s financial management processes.

To be a strong contender you will bring experience in the management of financial services in a multi-disciplinary and complex environment. You will be self-assured and adaptable to change. You will possess excellent stakeholder and people management skills and the capacity to consider multiple options to resolve complex issues.

**Qualifications and Education**
The position requires an academic and/or skill level that is consistent with the key deliverables and responsibilities set out above and in conjunction with the SES Band 2 - Work Level Standards.

Experience in public sector finance is essential. Relevant qualifications and CPA/CA certification are highly desirable.
