Building Commission NSW is seeking an experienced regulatory professional to undertake the role of Manager Investigations and lead the Design and Building Practitioners Integrity Unit (DBPIU).

**About the role**

The team works within the Investigation and Enforcement directorate and investigates allegations of wrongful conduct principally under the Design and Building Practitioners Act 2020 (NSW) (DBP Act) concerning building practitioners, design practitioners and professional engineers.

The DBP Act provides the rules that practitioners must adhere to regarding class 2, 3 and 9c construction in NSW.

A unique opportunity has arisen to lead the investigative function in this space. You will oversee the day-to-day operations of the team and carefully manage investigations into serious misconduct. This involves leading a team of principal and senior investigators who undertake end-to-end investigations.

Investigation outcomes may lead to disciplinary action, referral to an external agency and/or criminal prosecution.
- Substantial experience managing investigations into allegations of serious misconduct. You are confident in providing investigative advice concerning offence provisions that require proof of a particular state of mind and leading matters that are considerably complex.
- Demonstrated experience reviewing and authoring coercive notices. You understand, in detail, the requirements for the lawful issuing of coercive notices.
- Strong leadership skills. You have the ability to lead by example and build consensus with other teams, including individual technical specialists.
- Advanced written communication skills. You are comfortable proofreading and authoring lengthy documents to a high standard, including investigation reports and briefing notes.
- A high degree of personal and professional integrity. You understand the importance of procedural fairness and ensuring that coercive investigative powers are used appropriately and lawfully.

**In addition to the above, the following criteria are highly desirable but not essential**
- Tertiary qualifications in law and Investigations.
- Previous experience working within a large regulatory agency.
