**Your day as an Advisor**

The Budget Division operates at the intersection of finance, economics, and policy, providing strategic advice to the Government on the State Budget. As an Advisor, you will undertake complex research, analysis, and evaluation of budget data and policy proposals, demonstrating experience in analysing and interpreting financial data to identify trends or anomalies. The Division collaborates with a broad stakeholder network across Treasury, the Premier’s Department, and the Cabinet Office. The **Budget Management and Control** team supports annual budget processes and financial management across the public sector, planning and coordinating whole-of-government budget policy proposals, preparing advice for the Treasurer, Finance Minister, and Cabinet, and implementing budget reforms. The team also manages central provisions, upgrades the State’s budget system, and enhances budget processes and reporting to strengthen financial management.

In this integral role there are a few things we would like for you to have to best support yourself and add value to the people of NSW.
- Proficiency in data analysis tools such as Excel, Python, PowerBI, and PowerQuery is highly regarded.
- Appropriate tertiary qualifications or demonstrated professional experience in accounting, finance, law, economics, data science, public policy or in a related discipline.
- Ability to clearly convey technical and complex information in different ways (verbal, written and visual).
- Demonstrated experience analysing and interpreting financial data to identify trends or anomalies.
- Strong understanding of public sector financial management, economics, or government policy is highly regarded.
- Demonstrated ability to engage, negotiate and influence diverse stakeholders and competing priorities.
- Demonstrated ability to undertake research and draft briefing materials.
- Demonstrated project management skills and experience.
