Your contributionYou will lead a small dynamic and diverse team to deliver a strategic and operational policy program as well as divergent tasks and projects to support our objectives and the operation of the industrial relations and workers' compensation scheme. You will work in an often-evolving environment where priorities can shift rapidly and require you to respond with agility and flexibility to deliver positive outcomes, often within short timeframes. Your role includes hands-on policy work, as well as providing strategic direction and management to the team, as well as providing support and advice on critical matters to the Director and Executive Director.
Key responsibilities
- Plan, manage and lead the implementation of the policy and legislation program and ensure the applicability, relevance, enforceability and consistency of policy solutions with Government policy
- Provide high-level strategic advice to the Director, senior departmental officers and the Minister on the program and national and inter-governmental initiatives and developments in policy and legislation
- Provide essential oversight and leadership to the team and inter-divisional working parties
- Employ exemplary governance to ensure that the implementation of the tasks include robust planning, scheduling, risk management and reporting of milestones to key stakeholders
- Facilitate negotiation and consultation with internal and external stakeholders to ensure their involvement in the development, implementation and evaluation of the policy and legislation program - Represent and/or coordinate the Office of Industrial Relations' representation at forums, committees and councils - Monitor national and international trends and undertake research into current and emerging issues
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of the workers' compensation regulatory framework and the private sector industrial relations legislative framework
- Actively participate in the promotion of a discrimination free workplace culture that values equity and diversity
- Ensure the health, safety and wellbeing of the team. This includes ensuring you and your team members are aware of and observing their responsibilities and obligations including under relevant OIR Health Safety and Wellbeing policies and procedures.
