Principal Policy Officer, Workers' Compensation Policy

About the role
As Principal Policy Officer you will help develop evidence-based policy outcomes to support the operation of the Queensland workers' compensation scheme.
Reporting to the Manager, Workers' Compensation Policy, you will work on a diverserange of legislative and policy projects within a supportive team environment. As a senior member of the team, you will be trusted to work autonomously and will have the opportunity to lead your own projects.
Key responsibilities
**Your key responsibilities will include**:
contributing to and supporting the provision of high-level strategic policy advice to Managers, the Director, Senior Executives and the Deputy Premier to facilitate the development of legislation and policy initiatives
preparing Cabinet submissions, including policy recommendations, briefings, correspondence and policy papers for the consideration of Senior Executives and the Deputy Premier
leading operational policy projects and regulatory initiatives with support from your Manager
maintaining up to date knowledge of workers' compensation issues by monitoring national and international trends and undertaking research into current and emerging issues
investigating, researching and analysing policy and related legislative, economic and social developments to develop options and recommendations on relevant issues
preparing and/or co-ordinating responses to complex and sensitive issues arising from the Office of the Deputy Premier and WCRS' regulatory activities
supporting the unit's business as usual functions including recurring statutory appointments and responding to enquires and complaints from the public about the workers' compensation scheme
liaising with other government departments and agencies and key stakeholders at state and national levels
consulting and sharing information to ensure others in the work unit are kept informed of relevant issues
supporting and providing informal mentorship to junior members of the team, and
contributing to a positive, productive and professional team culture.
About the team
Workers' Compensation Policy provides strategic and evidence-based policy advice on all aspects of workers' compensation policy development and progresses legislative and operational policy reforms to deliver the agenda of the government of the day.
