The Countering Violent Extremism (CVE) Engagement and Support Unit (ESU) is a specialised multi-disciplinary team within the NSW Department of Communities and Justice (DCJ) focussing on prevention and early intervention of violent extremist behaviour. The unit delivers three programs - the Integration Support Program, Engagement and Support Program and the Step Together Helpline. ESU also contributes to national best practice in CVE interventions and works closely with both Commonwealth and NSW agencies.
The aim of ESU is to reduce the risk of violent extremism by providing early intervention and support to address social, psychological, or behavioural issues before they escalate to violent action. Our primary focus is on diversion in the first instance and disengagement.
**Your role**
The ESU works closely with government (both commonwealth and state) agencies, non-government agencies, industry sectors and the general public in raising awareness about vulnerabilities and assistance in identifying the signs of violent extremism.
In this role you will be required to produce, or facilitate the production of, communications content across a variety of formats to deliver ESU content to inform and increase understanding of interventions offered in relation to individuals disengaging from violent extremism.
The role is also required to identify, network, engage and deliver specific community engagement events for similar purpose.
**What you’ll do**
As part of the Engagement and Support Unit, you will be required to:
- Design, implement and coordinate multifaceted communications activities, to support ESU policy, and operational priorities and to communicate key messages relating to initiatives and service delivery.
- Deliver communications projects including developing logistics, budgets, resource and project plans, and reporting to enable the efficient and effective communication of information to the community.
- Provide input to the development of communications plans and communication strategies.
- Assist with the development and implementation of a community engagement strategy in partnership with the Step Together and ESP teams.
- Design and coordinate events to increase the profile of the ESP and Step Together and deliver key messages.
- Design strategic communications resources to support community organisations and service providers to understand the purpose and role of each service.
- Undertake analysis and review of communications tactics and strategies to determine outcomes of specific initiatives and inform future planning and activity.
- Create, monitor and update information for the team's websites and intranet to keep stakeholders up to date and provide comprehensive information on the team’s operations and services.
- Provide advice and support across Ministerial and Communications Services on the communications aspects of ESU campaigns and programs.
- Research trends and issues to identify target audiences and identify strategies to underpin best practice strategies for communications development.
You'll work as part of a tight-knit and dedicated team of professionals who are passionate about making a positive contribution to community safety and social cohesion. The role is a mix of working from home and the office in Parramatta. This role does call for some travel to regional parts of NSW to deliver community engagement events.
**What we’re looking for**
We’re looking for a communications expert who has a passion for developing innovative and creative communications materials.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver high quality and effective communication strategies and plans to support the department’s business objectives
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to develop content for various audiences and purposes
- Experience in planning and project managing communications activities with multiple dependencies
- A proactive attitude and a willingness to work through challenging situations
**Essential requirements**:
- Tertiary qualifications in marketing/communications and/or equivalent knowledge, skills and experience with demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development.
- Must be an Australian Citizen and able to acquire a National Security Baseline Clearance
- Current drive
