APS6 Policy Officer position available. 6-month contract in Federal Government with option for extension.

**Your new company**
This Federal Government Department is working on high profile policy issues affecting Australia’s Fuel Security issues and making sure Fuel Standards are in alignment with the Government’s net zero strategy with significant ongoing interaction with Industry, Government, and external stakeholders. Currently they are seeking an APS6 Policy Officer to join their highly motivated and collaborative team.

**Your new role**
This team is responsible for looking at energy transition and reducing demand in petroleum products and encouraging the use of alternative fuels by providing advice on managing the shift towards more distributed, variable energy generation as well national security.

As a Policy Officer you will hold a position of trust and will be required to manage professional relationships with senior staff and stakeholders, both internal and external to the agency. Here you will undertake research analysis and develop corresponding advice; drafting ministerial and senior executive briefing; drafting policy papers, cabinet submissions or parts of cabinet submissions or policy authority letters; support stakeholder relationships, including with market participants, energy market bodies, state and territory governments and other Commonwealth Departments and Agencies.

As you will be engaging and collaborating with a variety of stakeholders both internally and externally well-developed communication skills, with the ability to foster professional relationships whilst building rapport and trust is a must.

**What you'll need to succeed**
To be successful in this role, you will have previous experience in a similar position within Federal Government or equivalent. As well as this, you will have:

- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to engage with internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
- Highly developed organisational and time management skills with the ability to track and progress multiple ongoing tasks and priorities.
- Ability to understand, support, and promote the organisation’s vision, mission and business objectives.
- Ability to work autonomously, and with limited supervision, to take responsibility in managing and delivering on delegated tasks and conduct yourself in a professional manner with adherence to probity requirements.
- Knowledge and experience in Government writing, including policy development, correspondence, and the ability to develop high level briefs.
- The ability to foster professional working relationships whilst building rapport and trust.
- Manage effective and productive working relationships with internal staff, senior executives and external stakeholders throughout relevant jurisdictions and the Commonwealth.

To be considered for this role you must be an Australian Citizen and have the ability to obtain and maintain a Government Security Clearance at the Baseline level or higher.

Individuals currently employed substantively in the APS and seeking a S26 Transfer are also encouraged to apply.
