Our Emergency Management Department aims to build a safer and more resilient community through effective Fire Management. The key actions to achieve this include partnering with stakeholders to mitigate the risks from bushfires that threaten our assets and communities. Other core functions related to this role include the enhancement of fire management outcomes through proactive community engagement and responding to customer requests related to environmental hazards in the community that may increase the risk of fire.
The Department provides an ‘all-hazards’ perspective of the risks present in the Moreton Bay region, and comprises three teams; Disaster Management, Fire Management, and Public Safety.
This is a new role in our Fire Management Team for a Fire Management Officer - Mitigation.
**About our opportunity**
As our Fire Management Officer - Mitigation you’ll provide technical input and support into the delivery of operational activities relating to Council’s bushfire management strategy, program and projects to build safer and more resilient communities.
You’ll be supporting assessment, planning and implementation of activities to manage bushfire hazards and ensuring compliance with relevant fire management standards. You’ll coordinate and undertake tasks related to planned burns, environmental management activities and bushfire responses utilising the Australasian Inter-service Incident Management System (AIIMS), including as Incident Controller for low to moderate complexity burns as required. This may involve the leadership and management of multiple team members, volunteers and external contractors.
In addition, you’ll:
- collect, analyse and report on fire related spatial and other data
- undertake routine environmental assessments and prepare project documents
- coordinate internal and external processes, including training and equipment readiness, related to Council’s planned burns and bushfire responses
- engage proactively with key stakeholders and contribute to a positive team environment in our continuous improvement and customer focused culture.
**About you**
Bring your experience in bushland fire management activities, and knowledge in conservation with an emphasis on:
- fire management
- natural area ecology
- flora and fauna
- legislative interpretation related to the environment and fire
- conservation operations.
We’re looking for your research and analysis experience, highly developed people and relationship management skills, time management skills and the ability to meet deadlines. You must have the ability to work under pressure during bushfire and disaster response activations and be prepared to take on duties in Council’s Local Disaster Coordination Centre, On Call and scheduled overtime arrangements as required.
