Our** Emergency Management Department** aims to build a safer and more resilient community. The key actions to achieve this include partnering with stakeholders to develop arrangements to prevent, prepare, respond, and recover from emergencies and disasters. Other core functions include the enhancement of public safety through reducing the risk of fire on council land, proactive community engagement and the management of close circuit television systems to support business operations, crime prevention and investigation.

**_ The Department comprises three teams to manage these initiatives, these being Disaster Management, Fire Management, and Public Safety._**

We currently have a new role in our **_Fire Management Team for a Fire Management Officer - Planning._**

**About the Opportunity**:
As our **Fire Management Officer - Planning **you will have the opportunity to explore and understand our region and its natural values whilst contributing to the planning and delivery of the operational activities relating to Council’s bushfire management strategy, programs, and projects to build safer and more resilient communities.

You will manage the assessment, planning and implementation of operational activities, within assigned areas of responsibility, to ensure bushfire risks are mitigated for Council bushland and open spaces, ensuring compliance with all legislation, policies, and best practice fire management standards.

You will engage with a variety of key stakeholders both internally and externally with the opportunity to build those networks and relationships for long term collaboration.

You will also directly support our community by fulfilling duties in Council’s Local Disaster Coordination Centre, On Call and scheduled overtime arrangements as required.

In addition, you’ll:

- co-ordinate and undertake activities to ensure bushfire risks are managed for Council bushland and open spaces including community engagement, fire trail construction, vegetation modification and other projects
- undertake complex environmental assessments and prepare project designs, specifications, contract documents and budget estimates to deliver on capital and operational projects

**About you**:
We are seeking someone with a passion and desire to work with our community, interdepartmentally and across this highly skilled team to plan and deliver our operational activities relating to bushfire management. You will have knowledge in conservation with an emphasis on fire management, natural area ecology, flora and fauna, legislative interpretation, and conservation operations.

You will have experience in research, development and delivery of effective bushfire management strategies and programs within budget limitations.

You will have excellent skills in time management, managing conflicting priorities and communicating with diverse groups. You will have the ability to work under pressure during bushfire and disaster response activations.
