About the Role
Provide consumers with education, information, referrals and support from personal experience of recovery and of utilising mental health services and non-government agencies within an inpatient setting.
- Positively promote and demonstrate individual, carer and family recovery and be open to sharing the personal lived/living experience of supporting a person with mental health and/or substance use issues.
- Be an effective and collaborative member of the multidisciplinary team, and work within professional boundaries in accordance with peer work values to provide safe and quality practices as part of an integrated model of care.
- Develop innovative and creative opportunities to increase the engagement of consumers across the service, thereby improving the outcomes for consumers, carers, families, staff and community.
- Serve as a positive role model to consumers, carers, families and staff and a source of information and knowledge from a lived/living experience perspective of managing personal mental health.
- Provide direct peer support to consumers to build their capacity for independence, by engaging in individual and group peer support, advocacy and education activities.
