Cafe/store Manager

**About the Role**

Black Star Pastry is going from strength to strength and we are soon to open our brand new CBD store, located in one of Melbourne’s iconic laneways.

Our new store will showcase Black Star Pastry's innovative style whilst still honouring the heritage features of an historic CBD location.

On offer will be the full range of Black Star Pastry’s signature cakes, together with some fresh products created especially for this store, and of course first-class coffee from our partner St Ali.

With this we have a need for a Cafe/Store Manager to take the helm, lead the team and manage all areas of the new store, including overseeing employee performance and most importantly the customer experience.

This is a rare opportunity to come on board pre-opening to play a key part in the planning/setup process as well as enjoy all the excitement of the launch.

This is a full-time, permanent opportunity offering stability and a competitive salary.

Full training will be provided at our Chadstone and St Kilda stores.

**Main Responsibilities**
- Provide ‘hands on’ leadership within the store, overseeing all direct employees ensuring that they are trained in all store processes, standards and expectations.
- Communicate position expectations and monitor employee performance including coaching, counselling and disciplining employees in partnership with HR.
- Ensure adherence to systems, policies, procedures, and productivity standards.
- Complete weekly rosters in a fair and consistent manner and within budget requirements.
- Maintain workplace cleanliness and WHS standards, establishing systems to ensure levels are consistent and acceptable, communicating clear expectations to the team.
- Ensuring quality of service by maintaining consistent standards, analysing and resolving quality and customer service problems, identifying trends and recommending system improvements.
- Participate in leadership meetings and workshops.

**About You**
- 2-3 years’ leadership experience in hospitality or retail
- A talent for mentoring others - you love to lead by example
- Passionate about the customer experience and product quality
- Ability to connect with customers and provide an exceptional customer experience in a fast-paced environment
- Problem solving and critical thinking skills
- Demonstrated capability to multi-task - your organizational skills will be a strength
- Motivated and positive team player
- Strong communication skills
- Authentic and down to earth with a genuine love of people
- Love of cake a bonus

**About the Business**

Black Star Pastry opened its first boutique patisserie in Newtown in 2008 and since then we have grown into an institution with stores across Sydney and our innovative new store at Chadstone.

We are most famous for our Strawberry Watermelon Cake which has become a social media sensation, with the New York Times declaring it “the world’s most instagrammed cake.”
