Unions NSW is the peak council of trade unions in NSW representing over 600,000 members and 60 affiliated unions and trades and labour councils and is part of the broader trade union movement.
**Job Role**
The Campaigns Organiser position is an organising role and will work under the direction of the Secretary and with the Director of Campaigns & Strategy to coordinate innovative campaigns to deliver the outcomes contained in the Unions NSW Strategic Plan to grow the NSW union movement, with particularly focus on the areas of Work, Health and Safety and Workers’ Compensation.
Other relationships include:
- working with other members of the Campaigns Team;
- liaison with internal members of other teams including Industrial, Communications, WHS, Events and Community Engagement Teams; and
- working with affiliated union campaigners within designated campaigns and projects.
**Key Responsibilities**:
Under the direction of the Secretary and the Director of Campaigns & Strategy to work to develop and implement Unions NSW campaigning goals by undertaking the following activities:
- Develop a winning campaign culture at Unions NSW and across the NSW union movement.
- Assist in positioning Unions NSW as the voice for working people in NSW through innovative strategic campaigning.
- Assist in ensuring all campaigns contribute to developing the campaigning, industrial and skill capacity within affiliated unions and the NSW union movement.
- Organising, training and providing administrative support to the NSW Injured Workers Campaign Network as they implement their strategic plan.
- Assist with executing multi union campaigns and growth action plans contained in the Unions NSW Strategic Plan and as directed by the Secretary.
- Assist social media content creation where required.
- Assist with planning and executing various Unions NSW campaign activities which support campaigns including rallies, phonebanks, community events, fundraisers, door knocks and streets stalls.
- Provide transparent and effective reporting of campaign strategy, approach, plans and progress to Secretary.
- Travel to work with affiliates and partner organisations in NSW.
- Assist with other activities as directed by the Secretary.
**Professional and lived experience**:
Professional and/or lived experience with NSW Work, Health and Safety or Workers.
Compensation system is a desired but not necessary precondition for a successful applicant.
**Essential criteria**
- 3-5 years demonstrated experience developing and implementing growth, issues, industrial and/or political campaigns in unions, advocacy or NGOs.
- Demonstrated experience and capability to assist in the development of strategic and creative communications to further campaign goals and engage with target audiences.
- Demonstrated commitment to the principles of the trade union movement.
- Demonstrated experience in the integration of activist mapping and ladders of engagement for taking members on a journey through a campaign.
- Excellent communication, messaging and rapport building skills to hold effective one-on-one conversations to create and grow activists.
- An ability to generate media content and organise workers through social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently with mínimal supervision to manage a high-volume workload, multitask, prioritise workloads and to meet deadlines in a busy environment.
- Technologically proficient.
- Willingness to undertake relevant training.
- Demonstrated skills in:
- exercising initiative and independent judgement;
- work effectively as a member of a team;
- analysing and resolving problems and conflict; and
- using digital engagement platforms (incl CRMs), including the ability to use data in campaigns.
To perform the Campaigns Organiser position, you will also be required to have or obtain and maintain:
- A valid driver’s license.

**Conditions and Entitlements**
An attractive remuneration package will be offered to the successful applicant, which includes:
Personal Leave: 10 days per annum (accumulative).
- Annual Leave: 5 weeks annual leave with 17.5% leave loading.
- Long Service Leave: 2 months after 10 years’ service.
- Superannuation: 9.5% employer contributions 11.5% for female staff.
- Parental Leave: 52 weeks leave including 22 weeks paid parental leave or 3 weeks paid parental leave non-primary carer.
**Hours of work
- 35 hours per week which includes some out of hours work and reasonable overtime. Will include some weekend work during peak campaigning periods.
