**The Role**
Naval Construction Branch (NCB) are seeking a dedicated and skilled individual for the role of EL1 Hull & Structure Lead and become a valuable addition to the team. This is a unique opportunity to work on a range of navy vessel projects, right at the waterfront in Henderson, WA where the ships are being constructed.

The EL1 Hull and Structure Lead provides the necessary supervision of assigned projects on behalf of NCB and verifies those are constructed in accordance with agreed approved domestic/international standards throughout the different phases of the build. The key responsibilities of the role are:

- Manage and provide necessary support and specialist advice to a team of specialist personnel in Hull and Structure group conducting shipbuilding assurance inspections and audits.
- Attend inspections related to verification/Quality Assurance and collaborate in the development of strategies leading to resolutions to meet positive outcomes.
- Conduct specialist reviews of technical reports, drawings etc.
- Responsible for inspections within allocated discipline, maintaining continuous tracking.
- Supervision/support to matters of steel production, fabrication, paint and (sub)decking, including but not limited to welding, surface preparation, fairing, x-ray, NDT, ultrasonic, dimensional verification, markings, tanks, insulation, cross flooding, hull and compartment integrity, coatings etc.
- Articulate any residual risks and reports.
- Management and reporting of tests and Non-Conformities (systems, installations, workmanship etc).
- Establish and maintain a good working relationship within Defence, Prime contractors, suppliers, classification society and other regulatory bodies.
- Liaise with the Acceptance manager to drive closure of NCR’s and open ITP’s throughout construction and commissioning
- Lead a team of technical and engineering professionals.

**About our Team**
Naval Construction Branch (NCB) is accountable for the assurance of ship construction, set-to work and transit of vessels constructed at the Osborne Naval Shipyard and Henderson precinct. We are headquartered in Osborne, SA and have a detachment in Henderson, WA and a smaller presence in Port Macquarie, NSW.
NCB is furthering continuous naval shipbuilding and growing sovereign capability by overseeing the construction to ensure quality and standards are met, storing lessons learnt and developing standard shipbuilding procedures for construction.

NCB will oversee the construction of many different Navy vessels including Offshore Patrol Vessels, Hunter Class Frigates, Young Endeavour, Mine Hunter Vessels, Evolved Cape Class and Pacific Patrol Boats. Working at NCB will enable you to be at the grassroots of continuous naval shipbuilding, where you are part of a working shipyard, being able to see and contribute to the vessels delivered and used in Service by Navy.

NCB currently has highly skilled and diverse shipbuilding experience which will be shared to grow your hands-on construction knowledge. You will work alongside Navy personnel, internal project management officers and Prime contractors. The opportunity for technical staff to undertake industry placement is also available.
- Demonstrated experience in shipbuilding, hull and structure inspection including quality assurance and verification processes.
- Experience in leading and supervising a team of individuals to achieve quality outcomes.
- An ability to work collaboratively, communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders, and influence the work of teams.
- Attention to detail and a high level of ability to manage multiple competing priorities.
- The ability to exercise sound decision-making and judgement to provide expert technical and policy advice.
