About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Health and Safety Specialist to join our team at AGL Macquarie in the Hunter Valley, NSW. Reporting directly to the Outage Manager you will provide specialist health and safety advice and support specifically to the Outages and Capital Projects Teams along with guiding multiple contractors.
As the Health and Safety Specialist you will be out in the field guiding and coaching our people, increasing awareness and mitigating risks along with supporting the development, implementation and review of relevant policies, systems and procedures and contributing to initiatives and improvements.
What you’ll be doing:
- Regularly attend site safety meetings along with developing and distributing relevant communications to inform and educate the workforce about safety issues, requirements and expectations- Contribute to the planning, development, review and updating of policies and procedures ensuring currency, relevance, and accuracy- Supporting leaders to carry out incident investigations, ensuring that root causes are identified and that measures are established to prevent recurrences-
- Actively participate in and support organisational requirements such as Fundamental Risk Management, Safe Systems of Work and Visible Leadership- Conducting inspections, audits and other site activities that will minimise risk or improve safety performance- Development and ownership of outage specific safety systems and processes along with interrogating reporting and auditing to identify trends and opportunities for improvements- Collaborate with key stakeholders and actively contribute in safety initiatives and committees including regular attendance at site safety meetings and forums
About You
Utilising your specialist skills and experience as a Health and Safety Specialist you’ll be a strong communicator able to build trusted relationships and be the ‘go to’ for all things Health and Safety across our Outage Team. In equal parts you’ll be active in the field, attending meetings, supporting committees, and providing input to leadership forums along with keeping systems and processes current and relevant.
What you’ll bring to the table:
- Experience in large scale construction shutdowns/outages or similar- Experience managing multiple, primary contractors on minor and major projects- Tertiary qualifications in WHS Management, minimum Certificate (Diploma) IV in Occupational Health & Safety- Understanding and experience in relevant systems and programs, reporting, managing KPI’s and Contractor Safety Management plans- Committed to positive and engaging safety culture through interactions, behavioural safety programs and assurance activities- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to influence across people at all levels and adaptable to modify approach as required- Innovative and committed to continuous improvement within the Health and Safety space- Excellent planning and time management skills, able to deliver to multiple challenging deadlines- Demonstrated facilitation and lead of incident investigations highly desirable
